When starting "Runescape", every character's combat level is 3. The combat level is a formula based on several of a character's combat stats. This explains why it does not start at level 1. All skill levels other than HP start at 1, therefore:

Hit points is the only skill which does not have an initial level of 1. Characters start with 10 hit points. This is due to the fact that if they actually did start out with 1 hit point, then they would die if they took a single hit.

All characters, no matter what level they are, have 28 inventory slots (a 7x4 grid). All characters can craft air runes, therefore a runecrafting level of 1 is required. This may seem odd stating that a level of 1 is required, but in the world of "Runescape", there are several items which actually reduce the values of specific skills, therefore it could be possible that a character's runecrafting level can fall below 1, therefore rendering them incapable of crafting air runes.

Magic longbows require a fletching level of 85. Other than level 99, this is the goal of many fletchers. Magic longbows are not very expensive, but a large profit can be made by fletching them in high amounts, then using high alchemy on them.

Coal is perhaps the most important ore in "Runescape", as it is used for smelting steel, mithril, adamant and rune. Mining coal requires a mining level of 30, therefore:

85 - 30 = 55

Sharks heal 20 health, making them great for almost every aspect of combat in "Runescape". They do however, require a fishing level of 76 to catch. Entrance to the fishing guild requires a level of 68, although you can use several items to temporary increase your fishing level. Once inside, if your fishing level falls below level 68, you are not removed from the fishing guild.

76 - 68 = 8

For a long time, rune equipment was the best equipment in "Runescape". To wear rune, a character needs a meager level 40 in attack or defence, depending on whether it is a weapon or armour. Mithril can be worn at level 20.

An agility level of 35 is required to enter the barbarian outpost agility arena, in addition to Grimhand's barcrawl, which requires you to visit various pubs around "Runescape", and drink a certain beverage in each. Willow bows can be equipped at a ranged level of 20. Although both short and longbows can be equipped, shortbows on "rapid" style prove to be the fastest method of gaining ranged experience.

The slayer levels required to kill abyssal demons and dust devils are 85 and 65 respectively. Abyssal demons drop abyssal whips, and dust devils drop the dragon chainbody. Both of these items are extremelly rare and powerful.

Mind runes require a runecrafting level of 2 to craft.

20 * 2 = 40

Big bones give 15 prayer experience when buried and can be obtained from most moderate to strong enemies throughout "Runescape". Baby dragon bones give 30 prayer experience and can be obtained by killing any baby dragons.

(2 * 15) + (3 * 30) = 30 + 90

Trout can be cooked at level 15, and lobsters at level 40 cooking.

After reaching certain levels is magic, you can teleport to various places around "Runescape" making this an extremelly fast method of travelling. Level 25 in magic is required to teleport to Varrock.

Smelting iron requires only 1 iron ore, although there is a 50% chance that the smelting will not be successful. The chance of failure can be eliminated by wearing a ring of forging. When equipped, the next 140 iron that is smelted will have a 100% chance of success.
