Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Fishhook really doesn't have much use unless combined with which of these peculiarly-shaped lures?

Answer: Bee

In one of the rooms of the Spencer Mansion, you can locate several seemingly-useless items, specifically the Fishhook, the Lure of a Bee, and a Bee Specimen, and none of them actually have to leave the room if you don't want them to. Combining them in the right order will create an item that can be placed into one of the display cases on the wall and reveal a Wind Crest. Yeah.

Another item. The Wind Crest won't be useful until later when it's used to reveal-- get this-- three more crests. And then those reveal a Magnum, if you're interested.
2. An almost arbitrary Golden Arrow shows up at one point, but really you only need which part of it?

Answer: The arrowhead

Very early in the game in the Spencer Mansion, Chris/Jill will need to locate a golden arrow protruding from the chest of a statue in a second-floor hallway, and while it seems like it would be a useless item, the arrowhead, made from a green stone, is actually useful-- it slots into a grave-marker in the Spencer Cemetery (off the main lobby) and opens it up, leading down into an eerie crypt where one of the main puzzles of the mansion can be found.
3. A jewelry box puzzle in the mansion will result in finding which of these, which is actually the Emblem Key?

Answer: Brooch

The Brooch can only be obtained after completing the story past the residence building and then returning to the mansion for more fun (since you need the Helmet Key to get to it). In a room off the house's main lobby, you can locate a shifting jewelry box puzzle involving sliding pieces.

There's not much to it and it's relatively low-stakes. That said, once you open the box there'll be...jewelry inside. The Brooch is not what it appears to be though. The jewelry is useless but like everything else in the game, it can transform into a key-- specifically the Emblem Key, which is needed to access a study in the west wing of the mansion...and nothing else.
4. The Square Crank is used to access which of these?

Answer: The residence

Once you leave the Spencer Mansion for the first time you'll have the opportunity to visit the outlying buildings of the estate grounds. The first of these will have to be Lisa Trevor's shack, and while it's a great place to rest, sort your inventory, and maybe save the game, the only real item in there to make use of is the Square Crank which, while it can't be used at all in her shack, will allow you to lower an insultingly out-of-place water feature and gain access to the Residence building. There's a Hexagonal Crank later on in the game as well.
5. The X-Ray of Clark and the X-Ray of Gail, found in the labs, will give a hint in the form of which four-letter word?

Answer: CELL

Both the X-Ray of Clark and the X-Ray of Gail are found in the same room in the labs and both end up being placed on the lightboard, also in the same room, to be examined (Clark goes on the left). Using these sheets, there's a little puzzle involving corresponding words found on each, specifically Colon, Esophagus, Liver, Lungs. With their first letters in mind, you'll eventually use the word CELL to open the door to the Visual Data Room deeper in the labs. Who needs keys anymore at that point?
6. The Fuel Supply Capsule is purposeless unless you fill it with which of these?

Answer: Nitro

Oh yes, the Fuel Supply Capsule, one of the final items of the game, is useless on its own, but when loaded up with one of the most volatile substances in "Resident Evil", it can finally be put to use to...power an elevator. Loading the device with Nitro from the labs should be fairly straightforward, but running with it in your possession will likely set it off...as will being grabbed by a zombie...or fighting bigger monsters...or firing anything bigger than a handgun.

The capsule is slotted into a spot in the boiler room and even then you'll still need a Fuse once you face off against the Tyrant, otherwise you won't get an evacuation from the roof.
7. The Wooden Emblem is one of the earliest items you can find in the game. If you replace it with the Gold Emblem, what happens?

Answer: It opens a clock

The Wooden Emblem is a cheap item found atop the fireplace in the Dining Room, likely the second room you see in the game, and while you can pick it up as soon as you see it, it's just dead weight until later in the game when you can swap it out for a Gold Emblem (in fact, you'll need to).

When the Gold Emblem is placed atop the fireplace it will trigger a clock puzzle which, when completed, will reveal the Shield Key and, ultimately, grant you access to fight Yawn in the attic space on the other side of the mansion.
8. As innocuous as it sounds, the Cylinder combines with which of these?

Answer: Shaft

The Cylinder is an item that can be found when you complete a statue puzzle in the chambers beneath the Spencer Mansion (in a section regarded as The Tunnels). It doesn't take up inventory space for too long since a Shaft, found in the next room, combines with it and inserts into a control panel.

When you punch in the code 4231, gleaned from the Roman Numerals on the hybrid object you've created, you can raise and lower a lift that will lead you one step closer to facing off against Lisa Trevor.
9. The last thing you would want to do is use a Dog Whistle in this game but you do in the service of collecting which of these keys?

Answer: Armor

The Dog Whistle can be found in one of the bedrooms of the Mansion and with it you'll find a picture and a note corresponding to another location in the mansion-- a balcony on the opposite side of the map. Blowing the Dog Whistle there will spawn an evil zombie dog, but this is the most important one of the game since his collar will contain a special device which, when triggered, will create a replica key.

The replica key can be used to replace the Armor Key in an otherwise deadly trap on the third floor of the mansion.
10. The Sheet Music in the Spencer Mansion plays which of these songs?

Answer: Moonlight Sonata

Near the dining room of the Spencer Mansion you might be lucky enough to stumble across a music room with a grand piano inside. In this room you can find the cover of a Musical Score on a hidden bookshelf, but the contents don't come into play until later when you find the Musical Score item in a room near the attic. Combining the two will allow you to bring the item to the piano and play it to open a secret passage. If you're playing as Jill, you'll just play the song; if you're Chris, Rebecca will do the honours. Apparently, Chris can't play the piano.
