Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The game begins with a choice between playing as Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine. Who has more inventory space?

Answer: Jill

Before even commencing the game, you need to make a choice in difficulty (the more difficult Mountain Climbing route or the easier Hiking route) and a choice of character. When you choose either Chris or Jill, you're also choosing another difficulty level; Jill is the easier of the two because she begins with a lockpick (given by Barry) and runs through the game with eight inventory slots (versus Chris' six). She can take less hits because her defense is less than Chris', but she also gets different weapons. Both campaigns run through the same motions, but at certain junctions the player must utilize the help of different skills (eg. Jill's piano playing) or companions (eg. Rebecca Chambers in Chris' campaign) to get through the horror.

After selecting your character, it becomes July 1998. The location is a seemingly deserted mansion in Raccoon Forest. You're a member of the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team. Enter the survival horror.
2. Rebecca Chambers appears in Chris' campaign. If you're poisoned, what will she give you?

Answer: Serum

While Rebecca can prove to be a bit...erm...weak and cowardly at times, she does end up being a minor help in Chris' campaign. This is particularly odd since she survived the entirety of the prequel, "Resident Evil Zero" without succumbing to ineptitude with firearms.

In Chris' campaign her primary role is as a nurse and as a pianist; she is able to treat wounds and poison if the situation arises (she even stays in a medical room in the mansion for a time) and she even plays the "Moonlight Sonata" during a puzzle sequence.

When playing as Jill, Rebecca's services are not needed. Rebecca does not appear in Jill's campaign.
3. In Jill's campaign, Barry gives her a lockpick. This prevents her from needing what otherwise cumbersome item found in Chris' campaign?

Answer: Small Key

The Small Key is quite interesting in that it actually takes up space in Chris' six-space inventory; one key per slot. In other words, all of those desk drawers and doors that require Small Keys will prove a bit more frustrating. But such is the benefit of knowing Barry Burton. Barry gives freebies to Jill throughout the game (perhaps he thinks she's Rebecca?) including ammo, health items, and the ever-useful lockpick.

This allows Jill to get through a number of doors early on in the Spencer Mansion and saves valuable inventory space. You know. From Small Keys. Small Keys which fill the same space as a Grenade Launcher. Oh yeah, Jill gets one of those too, and Barry gives her some rounds for it. Perks!
4. The first major key of the game is found in a tomb. When you examine it, you discover that it is which of these?

Answer: Sword Key

You'll discover throughout the game that the Spencer Mansion is more hallways than rooms but the most important thing is that most of these hallways and rooms are inconveniently locked off in the most confusing way possible (perhaps this is to throw off mindless zombies).

The first mansion key to be found is the Sword Key and this is followed by the Armor Key, Shield Key, and Helmet Key (the last of these is found outside the mansion entirely). But wait-- there are more keys in the game (though not for the mansion).

When you visit the guest house and the basement, there are more to find! Luckily, these are only a temporary inconvenience provided you use them quickly. Once you unlock a door you don't need to unlock it again; once you unlock all of the doors needing the specific key, you are prompted to discard it.
5. Which of these items can you use as a save point in the game?

Answer: Typewriter

Not only do you need to conserve your ammo to survive the night in this game, but you'll need to conserve your saves. To record your progress in the game you need to use a typewriter (there are only a few throughout the mansion and outlying locations) and to do this you need to use an Ink Ribbon each time.

Ink Ribbons usually come in packs of three and, like ammo and items, they can be found all over the place. If you happen to be too cautious and save too many times, you could run out before the end of the game and sully any chances of winning.

Ink Ribbons persisted in the series until "Resident Evil 4".
6. There will come a time when the mansion isn't the only space to explore in the game. When you head outside, which of these animals are you not at the mercy of?

Answer: Spiders

Yes, even animals can catch the T-Virus. Although many of these animals are also inside the Spencer Mansion (and the windows don't even need to be open to let them in) heading outside will expose you to a great deal more of them from infected crows and poisonous snakes to the evil dogs known in the game as Cerberus.

Although humungous T-Virus-infected spiders can be found in the Residence and the Catacombs later on in the game, none of them are actually outside in the paths surrounding the mansion. Your character will also encounter infected bees.
7. In the basement of the Residence is a large tank and testing facility containing a giant T-Virus-infected shark. What is its name?

Answer: Neptune

Although the tests done on animals in the Spencer Mansion research facilities may have caused some dangerous mutations, one may consider that Neptune is a bit of a wash-- after all, Neptune is a shark and sharks can't leave the water. Then again, nothing is as it seems-- the sharks in the tank will attack Jill or Chris as they run along the catwalks at the top of the tank and you'll be at great risk throughout the puzzle sequence in a nearby control room. If you drain the pool, things get easier. You can actually kill Neptune by electrocuting him with a bit of machinery, which is nice. You'll get the Gallery Key when you finish this battle.
8. To defeat Plant 42 you can either go in guns blazing or you can use which concoction to weaken the dangerous foe?

Answer: V-Jolt

After you get the Gallery Key from Neptune's tank (good place to drop something) you can proceed to the part of the Residence containing a T-Virus-infected plant known as the sentient Plant 42. This is not a fun creature, mainly because it's huge, unyielding, and angry.

Although using powerful launcher rounds will kill it (though you will get hurt), you can also opt for the clever way out by creating a substance known as V-Jolt using your high-school (ha!) chemistry skills and dropping it in a room near the Aqua Ring. Killing this enemy will result in the Helmet Key, the last of the major keys for the Spencer Mansion.
9. After a brief stint back at the mansion (Hunters, anyone) you'll inevitably find your way to the Catacombs and the Laboratories. Which enemy, one of the game's strongest, can be found in these spots?

Answer: Chimera

The Chimera is a swift creature originally created through additional chemical and genetic modification by Umbrella researchers residing in the Spencer Mansion (and its Residences). The product of fly and human DNA, it's one of the strongest creatures in this game and, as such, you'll need to use superior firepower when dealing with it. You know...to make sure it's dead. On the same note, the Hunters found upon your return to the Spencer Mansion will also prove formidable-- their fast motions and ability to decapitate you in a swipe mean that you'll be best off just shooting it as fast as is humanly possible.
10. Your final battle will be on the roof of the mansion. Who will give you a rocket launcher to use during the battle?

Answer: Brad Vickers

After discovering that Wesker was the man behind the plot all along (as a member of Umbrella and a double agent within S.T.A.R.S.), the remaining members of the group need to make their escape as the mansion self-destructs. Heading to the roof as a foursome, they're pursued by a creature known as Tyrant-- it's the strongest thing in the game.

The best option here is to use the Magnum, but failing that you can use the strongest items in your arsenal until its health is low enough to prompt Brad, your helicopter pilot, to drop a Rocket Launcher (from the heavens, as one would expect).

A well-timed blast from this should end the ordeal once and for all.
