Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You're Jack, and you enter an underwater city called Rapture. Defeat Big Daddies and kill or rescue Little Sisters.

Answer: BioShock

"BioShock" was released in 2007, followed by "BioShock 2" in 2010 and "BioShock Infinite" in 2013. All these games are available on Windows, Mac OSX, PlayStation3 and Xbox360.
Big Daddies are giant creatures with modified DNA (named ADAM), and have as only task protecting the Little Sisters.
The Little Sisters have no offensive intentions: they only reap ADAM by mourning the dead. It's up to you, Jack, to decide to kill the Little Sisters or to spare them - which will have its effect in the end credits.
2. You're the American private Martin or the British sergeant Evans, and you land in Normandy. Or you're the soviet corporal Voronin, and you start war in Stalingrad.

Answer: Call of Duty

"Call of Duty" is the first instalment of a game released on Nokia N-Gage, Windows, Mac OSX, PlayStation3 and Xbox360.
If you choose for the American side, you start out as a paratrooper near Sainte-Mère-Eglise. The final mission will be the Battle of the Bulge. The ten missions to complete span about six months in real time.
As the British Sergeant Evans you land near Caen and have to take Pegasus Bridge in the first mission. The second mission is also work for a paratrooper, but form the third mission on you have to fulfil special operations as member of the SAS. These include flying with a bomber, escaping from a German airfield, and infiltrating the German battleship Tirpitz.
The third choice is Corporal Voronin of the Red Army. If you play Voronin, you'll start your missions as a sniper in and around Stalingrad. The final mission will take you to Berlin.
3. You're Jack Carver and you can freely roam a mysterious archipelago. But your opponent Dr. Krieger has set up facilities for genetic engineering on this archipelago.

Answer: Far Cry

"Far Cry" was released in 2004 as the first instalment of a video game franchise available on Windows, PlayStation3 and Xbox 360, and later instalments also on Xbox One or Playstation4. There is also one instalment for Wii only.
Your opponents are not only the human mercenaries hired by Dr. Krieger, but especially the genetically altered beasts.
4. You're a specialised infantry soldier during World War II.

Answer: Battlefield 1942

"Battlefield 1942" was released in 2002 on windows and on Mac OS as the first of a series of video games. The role you choose, will also influence your weapons and special abilities. For instance, a scout is equipped with a sniper gun, quite effective at long range but not the best choice for close combat.
Several maps from actual battles are the background for your mission. You should capture and hold occupied a number of control points, which will enable you to redeploy reinforcements and to refuse the enemy of reinforcing their troops.
5. You're an anonymous marine assigned on one of the dullest locations possible, Mars. But then horrendous aliens take over the planet's moon Phobos, and you're stranded there with only one option...

Answer: Doom

The first "Doom" release was for Dos only. But since then it has spread to almost all desktop/ laptop and console systems.
"Doom" was already released in 1993, but has obtained a remake in 2016. The action starts after you've landed on Phobos with a rescue team, and while you guard the spacecraft armed with only a pistol, you hear your comrades walking into an ambush. The ensuing silence convinces you that all your comrades are dead, and you can't fly the spacecraft. So the only solution is to fight your way through, hoping you find another way out...
6. You're Domasi Towadi (nicknamed Tommy) and your family has been sucked up by an alien sphere.

Answer: Prey

"Prey" was in 2006 released on Linux, Windows, Mac OSX, Xbox360, Symbian and Zeebo.
You are Tommy, a Cherokee ex-military, and your girlfriend exploits a bar in Oklahoma. When you're in the bar, suddenly the building and all those present are mysteriously transferred to an alien sphere. Then you learn to detach your spirit for limited time, and your spirit will help you to find ways out that mortal eyes can't see. Your physical self as well as your spirit can and will have to battle against foes, too.
7. You're a Vault Hunter on the planet Pandora. Your name is Roland the Soldier, Mordecai the Hunter, Lilith the Siren or Brick the Berserker.

Answer: Borderlands

"Borderlands" is the first in a series of games for Windows, Mac OSX, PlayStation3 and Xbox360. The player characters to choose between, return in the sequels as non-playable characters and are replaced by other (similar) characters.
The fictive planet of Pandora has been used as a mining colony for years. Rumour has it that somewhere on Pandora there is a vault with precious content. So you embark (as one of the playable Vault Hunters) on a mission to find the vault, and do so before the criminal organisation named the Crimson Lance finds and opens it.
"Borderlands" incorporates several features from role playing games, for instance the fact that your character choice at the start of the game will also influence your strengths and weaknesses, and the possibility to develop (maximum three) special skills.
8. You play Ethan Cole and you enter a military base in Nevada taken over by grey aliens.

Answer: Area 51

Originally "Area 51" was released only on arcade machines. In 2005 a version for Windows, for PlayStation2 and for Xbox hit the market.
The story is loosely based upon the existence of the military base Area 51 in Roswell, Nevada, and the speculation that some alien life form may have been taken into the base in 1947.
In the plot, the grey aliens have construed a new base and developed a mutagenic virus. Ethan Cole is aided by up to seven non-playable characters, who can only die if the script demands so. The death of one of Ethan's team mates thus is not the result of any mistake by the player: the script indicates clearly where, when and how each of Ethan's team mates meet their demise.
9. You're James Bond, and you fight missions in Paris, Austria, Tokyo, an island in the Pacific, and finally a space station equipped with a large laser weapon.

Answer: 007: Nightfire

"007: Nightfire" was released in 2002 on GameCube, XBOX, PlayStation2 and Windows, with later a version on GameBoy Advance and on Mac OS X.
The missions as described hereafter, are all missions in the XBOX release. Some releases (such as Windows) skip some missions while adding other features.
In the first mission, you have to stop terrorists to detonate a nuclear bomb under the Eiffel Tower.
Your second mission is to steal a microchip in a castle in Austria, during a large party.
In the third mission you sneak into a skyscraper in Tokyo, and the only way out after you're discovered, is a base jump from the roof.
The fourth mission is on a remote island in the Pacific, the secret headquarters of Dr. Drake (your main adversary).
Finally you battle Drake on a space station equipped with a giant laser, that can annihilate an entire city at once.
10. You're Nolan Daneworth, a Western Republic Federation elite soldier. Your fight with elite soldiers from the United Asian Nations will be broadcast live on television.

Answer: Bet on Soldier: Bloodsport

"Bet on Soldier" was released in 2005, only on Windows. The backdrop story is about a world continuously at war, but contrary to the battlefields of WW I, where thousands of soldiers shot at each other on the same site, now all fighting has been replaced by one-on-one death match duels. These are broadcast live on television, and professional gamblers try to pick the winners.
At the same time, there is also a major plot of a Syndicate forcing both sides to continue fighting each other, and a Resistance trying to sabotage the Syndicate's plans.
