Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Since its inception "Civilization" has allowed the player to choose between various types of Victory conditions. Which type of Victory condition was REMOVED from the base game in "Civilization VI?"

Answer: Diplomatic Victory

Diplomatic Victory is achieved by reaching a certain threshold of Diplomatic Victory points but is only available in "Civilization VI" if one has the "Gathering Storm" expansion.

To complete a domination victory one must capture and hold the starting capitals of all the competing civilizations. A religious victory requires that you convert a majority of the population of all competing civilizations to a religion that you found. To achieve a science victory, you must accomplish these major milestones, in the base game; that means, Launch a satellite, Land a Man on the Moon, and Establish a Martian Colony
2. City-States (introduced in "Civ V") are autonomous AI cities that can either aid, or hinder your progress in the game. You can trade with city states or get them to ally with your civilization by sending them envoys. If you have at least three envoys in a city-state and more than any of your competitors, what do you become to that city?

Answer: Suzerain

As their Suzerain they will ally with you in any wars, or allow you to "levy" their troops for a fee. They will also provide you with whatever their "special" benefit is and share their luxury & strategic resources with you.
3. City-States come in different types giving different types of bonuses to your civilization when you send them envoys. Which of the following is NOT one of the various types of city-state?

Answer: Environmentalist

Generally placing your first envoy with a city state will gain your capital city some benefit related to their city-state type. Placing 3 gets you benefits for any of your cities with a key building based on that type and placing 6 gets you an even bigger benefit. This is independent of whether you become that city's Suzerain or not.

In addition to Religious, Industrial, and Scientific city state types there are Cultural, Trade, and Militaristic city states as well.
4. Districts are new to "Civilization VI". These are specialized zones which can be built in your cities. Different districts are unlocked over time via technical or civic developments and allow for the building of additional specialized buildings that aid your city. Which of the following districts is not one of the districts that you can build?

Answer: Red Light District

In addition to the Encampment, Campus, and Holy Site districts, there are Theater District, Harbor, Commercial Hub, Aerodrome, & Spaceport districts to name a few. While there is no Red Light District, there is an Entertainment District that makes your citizens happier and allows for the construction of Arenas, Zoos, & Stadiums.
5. Earlier "Civilization" games had a technology tree that would allow the player to choose which technologies to study in what order. "Civilization VI" introduced a second tree, the Civics tree which unlocks buildings, units, government types and policy cards which can be placed in policy card slots determined by your chosen form of government. Which of the following is NOT one of the policy slot types?

Answer: Scientific

In addition to the Military, Economic, and Diplomatic Policy slots, most government types offer one or more "wild card" slots as well.

Given that each form of government offers some basic benefits in addition to the varying number of policy card slots, this aspect of the game is much more involved than the "Civilization V" Social Policy mechanic that it replaced.
6. In addition to constructing the standard buildings, districts, and units, your cities may build Wonders that give additional benefits. One benefit may be an additional policy card slot which you get regardless of your form of government. Which wonder below is paired with the wrong type of bonus policy slot it offers?

Answer: Oracle +1 Religious policy slot

There is also a Big Ben wonder which gives +1 Economic policy slot.

The base game offers 33 wonders, each with unique benefits (and a movie that is shown upon completion) with additional wonders offered in both the Rise & Fall and the Gathering Storm expansion packs.

Some of the wonders are the old standbys that have been around since the first "Civilization" game (like The Pyramids) while others, like Ruhr Valley, are new to "Civilization VI."
7. Religion has had expanded role since "Civilization IV" and has even become a victory type. "Civilization V" added the aspect of choosing Pantheons and religious beliefs to the game as well as missionaries to spread your religion. In "Civilization VI" religious combat aspects have been added to the game. What religious unit is the primary instigator of religious combat in "Civilization VI?"

Answer: the Apostle

Apostles may initiate combat or evangelize (add another belief), spread the religion, or launch a once per game Inquisition.

A Missionary, while cheaper than an Apostle, may only spread the religion and is pretty defenseless in religious combat.

A Guru may engage in defensive religious combat and may heal other nearby religious units.

The Evangelist doesn't exist in-game.
8. Traditionally the game starts with a player having one settler and one warrior. The settler is used to found your capital city while the warrior explores the surrounding area. As technologies & resources increase warriors can be upgraded. What unit is generally the first that a Warrior can be upgraded to?

Answer: swordsman

The spearman & pike-man are anti-cavalry specialists and not on the warrior's upgrade path. Warriors can be upgraded to musket-men but only after the gunpowder technology has been researched.
9. Certain buildings in your cities award points each turn that allow you to acquire great people that can provide special benefits to your units and cities. Which of the following is NOT a class of Great Person that is available in "Civilization VI?"

Answer: Great Debator

The complete list of Great Person types includes Great Admiral, Great Engineer, Great General, Great Merchant, Great Prophet, Great Writer, Great Musician, and Great Scientist.
10. When one wins, loses, or quits a game of "Civilization", it's traditional to give the player a ranking as to how well they managed their civilization. The ratings equate your performance with that of well known historical leaders. As in earlier games, the worst score ranking is that of whom?

Answer: Dan Quayle

Augustus Caesar, Hammurabi, and Abraham Lincoln are the top three ratings respectively.
