quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I am the leader of a militaristic and scientific civilization. My civilization's colour is blue and my unique unit is a specialized version of the tank. Who am I?

Answer: Otto Von Bismarck

The Germans are probably the most agressive civilization in the game and can often be seen starting many wars. It is a good idea to take them out early before the era of tanks unless you are allied with them.
2. Which of the following civilizations can NOT be found in the original version of "Civilization III"?

Answer: Ottomans

The Ottomans can be found in "CIV3: Play the World". Their leader is Osman and their unique unit is the Sipahi, a horse with 8 attack!
3. Who created the "Civilization" series?

Answer: Sid Meier

CIV3 was created by Sid Meier and Firaxis. There have been three civilization games to date, not including any sort of expansion such as Play the World.
4. Ah... the Scientific Method... what a great tech! It allows for a super-important wonder of the world. What does this wonder do?

Answer: It grants the civilization two free techs automatically.

This tech is found in the Industrial Era of the game. It can really help you get a lead on your opponents as far as the tech race is concerned (which is crucial if you are going for that space race victory!).
5. Speaking of nuclear weapons, what is the SMALL WONDER OF THE WORLD called that allows you to build it?

Answer: Manhattan Project

Using nuclear weapons can cause the world to go through global warming and creates lots of pollution. Also, it can make the AI really hate you and cause every single civilization in the world to declare war on you.
6. Which of the following has the highest attack?

Answer: The Persian Immortal

At 4 attack, the Persian immortal is a step up from the Swordsman (3 attack). It is arguably the best unique unit in the game. I cringe with fear whenever I see the Persians as my next door neighbours. They are certainly one civilization you do not want to get angry.
7. The Aztecs are religious.

Answer: True

The leader of the Aztecs is Montezuma and their unique unit is the Jaguar Warrior... a faster version of the Warrior. It can help take over cities early on but it is nothing impressive as it ignites an early golden age.
8. What is one way NOT to trigger a golden age?

Answer: End a war lasting over 50 turns.

In general, golden ages during the middle of the game can make or break your game since that's when many important wonders such as Sun Tzu's Art of War come into play.
9. So the other day I allied with that guy, Caesar, in order to fight my only two enemies, Russia & Japan. I declared peace with Togukawa but the Russian leader would have none of it. Who is this Russian leader that refused my envoy?

Answer: Catherine the Great

Joseph Stalin was the leader of the Russians in Civilization I.
10. Speaking of leaders, who is the leader of the French?

Answer: Joan D'Arc

I think Napoleon would've been a better leader. The only problem was that he wasn't born in France.
11. Which is not a government type in Civ 3? (regular edition)

Answer: Fascism

Yes, anarchy is a government type, although you cannot stay in it for very long. It is what occurs when you change government types. During that stage, no growth occurs in your civilization.
12. Now here is one unique unit that wouldn't be very useful on a Pangaea style map.

Answer: Man O' War

The Man O' War is the English Unique Unit and really helps England in dominating the ocean. Alas, that is not very useful when ships are not needed to reach your enemy. The Caravel is also a ship but is not a Unique Unit.
13. Hiawatha is a very interesting fellow. The other day, he told me about his capital city which had recently completed a wonder of the world. What default capital city was he talking about?

Answer: Salmanca

Hiawatha's Civilization is the Iroquois. Their unique unit is the Mounted Warrior.
14. What do Spearmen upgrade to?

Answer: Pikemen

The Spearman upgrade to Pikeman will increase your units defense by 1.
15. Wow, all these capital cities building wonders. First Hiawatha, and now Hammurabi. Hammurabi built a nice little wonder called the Sistine Chapel. In which capital city did he build it in?

Answer: Babylon

Hammurabi created the Code of Hammurabi, which was probably the first real set of laws ever made.
16. On which terrain could I stand on if I wanted my defender to have the greatest possible defense bonus?

Answer: Mountain

A nice little thing to do is to fortify a unit with high defense on a mountain. The AI will keep attacking it and lose many troops this way.
17. I always hear about those railways being so great. In fact, I hear that if you use railways, you can transport troops from one city to another in one turn regardless of how far away those cities are provided they are connected to each other and don't pass through unfriendly territory. Is this true? (Yes or No)

Answer: Yes

To build a railway, simply pass your worker over an existing road and press R. Make sure you have coal as well as the sufficient tech in order to do so.
18. Dem Future Techs can be essential in winning the game since they give you so many benefits. Right? (Yes or No)

Answer: No

All Future Techs do is add to your score. So unless you want to boost your score at the end...
19. I hate having to press SPACE BAR every turn for my knight on the side of the coast since it is waiting for my ship to come back and pick it up. What could I do instead?

Answer: Sentry

Retiring isn't good unless you want all your allies and enemies to make fun of you. If you want to see the histograph, just click the H button beside where it says the name of your civilization and your gold. Fortify works but Sentry is better since the horse will automatically board your vessel once it comes back.
20. That Gandhi and his War Elephants. I mean, War Elephants ain't so great, right? They don't give any extra attack or defense so what could they be good for?

Answer: They require no strategic resources to build.

Since they require no strategic resources to build, that city on another continent that you just captured that is not connected to any source of (anything) can immediately start spewing them out.
21. Which of the following can you do with another civilization?

Answer: You can do all of these.

You can do all of these but require certain techs in order to do so.
22. What is not one of the options that you can choose for "Barbarians"?

Answer: Enraged

Barbarians are good at the beginning of the game for building your veteran units up to Elite without having to fight a war.
23. What is the easiest difficulty level?

Answer: Chieftain

In Chieftain, the AI plays with so many disadvantages it's extremely difficult to lose. The levels are, in order from easiest to hardest, Chieftain, Warlord, Regent, Monarch, Emperor & Deity.
24. I could swear these two guys look similar. They both have goatees and reside in the Middle Eastern area. I don't remember their names though, do you? Well, I don't need to know both of them so just tell me one.

Answer: Hammurabi

Hammurabi is the ruler of the Babylonians and Xerxes is the ruler of the Persians. I could swear they look similar.
25. Finally, last question, this wonder of the world is a huge culture booster since it can be gotten so early in the game. It puts a granary on every city in the same continent. What is it?

Answer: Pyramids

The Pyramids are the first Wonder of the World you can build and are almost essential for a culture victory since the culture builds up for such a long time.
