Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the Silk Road Ruins, what is the giant statue holding in her right arm?

Answer: Nothing

If you guessed "a jar" that's actually in her left arm, not her right arm (you have to look at this perspective as if you were her, not looking at her).

She also holds her right hand in a peculiar fashion that makes it look like a couple of her fingers were broken off due to age.
2. In the Lakeside Coliseum level, you can see a shooting star in the night sky.

Answer: True

You can see it best by looking in Rock's Character Profile and turning the camera to show the opening of the cave. If you look hard enough you can see a shooting star zip away in the sky. Also, when it pans around the level before a match, it would go from the cave to the grandstand, and you could also see the shooting star from there.
3. In Tales of Souls, each character will encounter two of three events involving an attack by the opposing character. Which event does NOT have you dodge an attack by the character involved?

Answer: A Trap

This is because that you don't avoid an attack by the character (Zasalamel), but rather a cog that apparently was set loose when the clock begins a motion.

In the other three - Raphael, Astaroth, and Cervantes - attack with their weapons.
4. What condition must be met to go along a special, cursed path?

Answer: Lose to Zasalamel at least once while battling him in the Clock Tower.

I've tested this over and over again, and it's official that you have to have used at least one continue while fighting Zasalamel. Note I specified Clock Tower; that's because Ivy fights him on her first stage, and you may fight him at the Lost Cathedral, depending on your path.
5. What condition must NOT be met to see Olcadan?

Answer: Defeat both bonus opponents/groups of opponents.

The bonus characters aren't necessary to meeting Olcadan - in fact, you can lose to the first one (Olcadan is considered the second bonus opponent) and still meet Olcadan in the Grand Labyrinth, as long as you have not lost before then.

Certain paths will allow you the option to hear a rumor of a "boastful man" if you choose the right path to lead you to the right Stage 6 opponent (quite often it's involved in the second selection after Stage 1), but if you ring out the Stage 6 opponent, you won't have the chance to enter the Labyrinth and will instead go the regular pathway.

As a tip, you know you've selected the proper Grand Labyrinth path if you battle Zasalamel in the Clock Tower on stage three (the character - aside from Lizardman and Voldo, for apparent reasons, and Zasalamel himself - will mention about the Soul Edge sword, then Zasalamel responds with "I place my curse upon you..."), make a selection, and then there's another selection that comes up. It's only on this double split (where on the second split, one option is treated as if you chose the other option in the first split) that you can find the path to the Labyrinth.
6. Aside from himself, who never meets Nightmare in their Tale of Soul?

Answer: Tira

Interesting point about Tira: She never meets Nightmare in her Tale of Soul path, but you can fight her as Nightmare in his Tale of Soul path (when he visits Ostrheinsburg). In fact, regardless of whether you dodge the cage or not after her destined battle, she always meets Siegfried.
7. Which of the following levels does not have a building or structure on fire?

Answer: Egyptian Temple

The Egyptian Temple isn't on fire, although there are torches lit in the process.

In Old Toledo, the entire building is on fire and you're fighting in the midst of it (Yikes!)

In the Battle in the Strait, if you look carefully, there are a couple warships on the sides that are burning excessively.

In the Romanian Valley, one side of the castle has smoke billowing out of it, a result of it being hit by so many of the catapult ballistas.
8. By default, what weapons are Soul Edge and Soul Calibur?

Answer: Iron Sword/Chinese Blade

Easiest way to see is that, when they're unlocked, create a Swordmaster character, select him/her, then go to Iron Sword/Chinese Blade weapons. They fall under those two categories.

The Iron Sword's Soul Edge eye blinks every now and then, if you watch it long enough, but it doesn't do that to Nightmare's Soul Edge (Complete), which is basically the Iron Sword.
9. "The time is ripe. You shall become part of me." That's the first line Nightmare says all the time, but when he meets Siegfried, what's the first line he says?

Answer: "The time is ripe. You shall become part of me."

The second line is what's different. To everyone else he says "You are my first sacrifice." But at Siegfried, he says that he will take his body back.

The line "Siegfried... Siegfried..." is the line a phantom Nightmare says on Siegfried's ending.
10. Of which of the following characters' endings seems more (or the most) appropriate to purposely miss the command, because the bad ending is better than the good ending?

Answer: Rock's

Rock's good ending results in him being caged, but his bad ending ends with a picture of him as a god in the water.

Raphael's and Zasalamel's endings have them finally accomplish their goal in the end, if you pick their good ending. Yoshimitsu's ending in either method is a result of him losing gold, so how can either one be a GOOD ending?
11. Of which of the following characters' endings seems more (or the most) appropriate to purposely miss the command, because the bad ending is better than the good ending?

Answer: Cassandra's

Cassandra and Tira would be close enough (Tira's bad ending has her deliver Soul Edge to Sophitia's children - which was her goal), but Cassandra's bad ending has her safely place the broken sword back on the altar before Sophitia shows up.

(Her good ending, by the way, has Sophitia show up earlier, resulting in Cassandra try to hide the sword, only to have the broken piece discovered, and then forced to repair the sword. Poor girl.)
12. Which of the following moving arenas does NOT constantly go throughout the scenery?

Answer: Clock Tower

The clock tower's platform just rotates in place, and doesn't go up or down or left or right or diagonal or spin vertically or anything like that. The Egyptian Temple's platform is set on a crane that moves it up and down and back and forth in Egypt, though it doesn't go very far. Mt. Fuji and Ostrheinsburg's platforms move through a river of lava and a moat, respectively.
13. What is unique about Rock's ending that does not appear on any of the other characters' endings?

Answer: His final scene on the bad ending actually differs depending on his costume.

The costume varies the final sketch scene, to which it's either a roaring lion or a trumpeting mastodon emerging from the water next to the ship.

All endings have a command input. That's what differs the good ending from the bad.

The three consecutive button answer actually refers to Seong Mi-na's ending (who, really, has four or five) and not Rock's ending.

There are a few other characters who don't destroy Soul Edge when they come face-to-face with it: Zasalamel uses it to break his curse; Astaroth and Voldo carry it with them; Setsuka ignores it completely, etc.
14. In both sides of Lizardman's ending, the villagers want to capture him and sell him into slavery. Of which of the following is NOT a significant difference between the good/bad endings?

Answer: He either captures or kills the hunters.

Obviously, in the good ending, he has a crown on his head and the lizardmen are dancing on the walls. His aura is blue for Soul Calibur (good ending) and reddish purple for Soul Edge (bad ending?). In either case he leaps down from the gate to attack the hunters.
15. Which two people have their weapons involved with Soul Edge in some way?

Answer: Ivy and Taki

Ivy's weapon had been fused with part of Soul Edge; she never realizes this until after her weapon started to go awry.

Taki's weapon, Mekki Maru, had Soul Edge infused in it, and would respond every time an evil source was nearby. In order to keep the curse from affecting her, she sealed it in a sheath.

Lizardman himself was cursed by Soul Edge, but neither his weapon nor his shield (only his body) actually had Soul Edge infused in it.
16. Which two people have a While Rising B attack throw?

Answer: Zasalamel and Nightmare

Zasalamel and Nightmare both bring their weapons up and stab their foes, and toss them over their shoulder in different methods.

Tira, too, has an Attack throw, but her throw is a Counter While Rising B, which means it can only work while the opponent is in the middle of an attack. Otherwise, Tira would swing the ring upwards and launch the opponent away from her.

Abyss (not mentioned) has a similar while rising B attack as Zasalamel's, but instead of flinging the opponent upwards and into the air, he swings the opponent over his head and slams them into the ground on the other side. Ouch.
17. All the characters you fight in the Tales of Souls are either playable characters or characters you can create in the Create-a-Character mode.

Answer: False

Four characters are neither playable nor re-creatable: Night Terror, Charade, Will-o'-the-wisp, and Shadow Master (at least not in pure-black form). Any of the other characters you fight, including the extra characters, can be unlocked and playable, or creatable.
18. Which shopkeeper sells books?

Answer: Valeria

She's the one you go to to buy art, more custom character options, and weapon demos.

The other two sell armor (Lynette) and weapons (Hualin).

Side-note: In Olcadan's good ending, Valeria and Lynette are there in Hualin's shop, but not Hualin herself!
19. Which of the following objects is not in motion in the Secret Money Pit?

Answer: A boat carrying stolen gold across the water.

There is a boat, however. It just doesn't move. Look for it to the left of the Vercci statue, looking at the statue. You may have to look over the edge of the arena to find the boat.
20. Which of the following characters does not have a fight with another in the opening movie?

Answer: Kilik

Kilik is with Xinaghua in their segment, but they're not fighting each other. Taki is fighting Voldo, Nightmare is fighting an army, and Raphael is fighting (and losing to, apparently) Tira.
