Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following Terran "Starcraft" units/buildings can effectively defend a Terran base against an early Dark Templar rush, when used and placed effectively?

Answer: Both the Comsat Station's Scanner Sweep or Missile Turrets

Not having detectors is a major fault that Dark Templars can easily exploit. Detectors must be present to defend against a Dark Templar rush. Also, make sure you have some units other than SCVs to defeat the Dark Templar. As the Observer is a Protoss unit, there is no way for a Terran base to obtain an Observer.
2. Your small protoss base is under attack by a group of six Zerglings. Which of these combinations will counter a zergling rush and not result in a significant setback when used effectively?

Answer: Two Zealots and a Shield Battery

The six pool Zergling rush is the fastest rush in both "Starcraft" and "Starcraft: Brood War". With some micromanagement, you can keep recharging the shields on the Zealots so they will not lose any health. Terran players can use a full Bunker instead which will work just as well.
3. What is the difference between the Corsair's special ability, Disruption Web, and the Defiler's Dark Swarm?

Answer: Disruption Web stops every attack coming from under the web

The Corsair can cast a web of energy on the ground that disrupts all attacks coming from within the affected area for a short period of time. All ground units and ground defenses cannot attack while within the area of effect of the Disruption Web.
Units within a Dark Swarm take no damage from ranged attacks. Only units with melee, splash, or special weaponry are able to affect a unit underneath a Dark Swarm. Note that the Dark Swarm will only protect units, and any buildings in the cloud are still vulnerable to attack by ranged weapons.
4. An advantage of playing Terran is being able to wall off entrances easily. In what order would you place the following Terran defenses, listed from closest to battle front to furthest: Supply Depots, Tanks, Missile Turrets.

Answer: Supply Depots, Missile Turrets, Tanks

This is an effective combination of buildings for a Terran player to wall off a narrow entrance. It is advantageous to place Supply Depots first since they take up the most room and will not attack an invading force they can serve as a barrier, and an invading land army will have to attack them first.
5. In "Starcraft: Brood War" which of these special abilities renders two Protoss units, the High Templar and the Dark Archon, useless for a period of time without killing the unit?

Answer: EMP Shockwave

Psionic Storm damages both these units, Parasite does not damage the unit but does not affect the targeted unit, Ensnare slows down the unit for a period of time and the Science Vessel's EMP Shockwave instantly depletes a unit's shields and energy that is required for a unit to use special abilities. Since these two units rely on special abilities, EMP is the answer.
6. In "Starcraft" there is no ultimate unit, however, the Battlecruiser comes close. Which of the following units from the ORIGINAL "Starcraft" are capable of countering it?

Answer: Wraith, Scourge, Scout

The Wraith can cloak so a few cloaked wraiths can defeat a Battlecruiser easily if it cannot detect them. Five to six Scourges can easily take out a Battlecruiser in a second. The Scout is the cheapest air to air combat unit and takes fewer resources to build than the Carrier.
7. Scouting early game gives you a significant advantage, especially if you find the enemy. Which of the following units (one for each race) is most commonly used for scouting early game?

Answer: SCV, Overlord, Probe

As the Overlords serve no purpose in gathering resources, Zerg often sends them out (they have the advantage they can fly). Zerg must be careful about leaving Overlords unprotected as that can greatly damage their economy. Probes can warp in buildings so Protoss has the advantage in scouting over Terran.
8. Critters provide an extra sense of realism to "Starcraft" maps, but why are critters so important for the Zerg?

Answer: The queen can Parasite them

Parasited critters (especially the kakaru which can fly) can travel into an enemy's base undetected and gather reconnaissance information. Critters can be mind controlled, but this is not practical as the enemy will destroy them just like if they were any other of your other units.
9. Controlling the high ground is vital in many "Starcraft" games, however, not all high ground has ramps to enable ground access. Which of the following units would be least effective to stop an invading force from attacking your army on high ground from a lower ground when there are no ramps.

Answer: Protoss Reaver

The Protoss Reaver is the only siege unit that cannot fire onto units above or below them without the use of a ramp. Units on high ground have a 100% chance of hitting their target, while units have a 70% chance of hitting units above them. The Zerg Guardian would be the most effective to use to attack units on high ground.
10. The Dark Archon's ability, Feedback, is often overlooked by Protoss players. Which of the following units could be killed by a single use of Feedback when on full health?

Answer: Ghost

Feedback deals damage according to how much energy the targeted unit has. The Battlecruiser will need to be on no more than half health with enough energy for Feedback to destroy it. Feedback only works on spell casters and is useless against units like Zealots and Infested Terrans. Feedback is a quick way of killing Ghosts, Science Vessels, Queens, High Templars and even other Dark Archons.
