Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the ultimate leader of the Zerg?

Answer: The Overmind

The Overmind is just a big mass of brain. It has a psionic grasp on every Zerg creature, except for those the Terran were able to take over using the the psi disrupter. The Overmind was eventually killed at the end of "Starcraft" but a new one started growing in "Brood War".

After the first Overmind was killed, Kerrigan began taking control of the Zerg broods, ultimately becoming the Zerg ruler. Both Overminds had to be killed by Protoss Dark Templar, for no other unit could destroy it and keep it dead.
2. The Zerg are able to take over a Terran Command Center and produce Infested Terran. Which unit can take control of a Terran Command Center?

Answer: Queen

When you find a Terran Command Center you want to take over, weaken it down into the red zone. Once this is done you can send in your Queen who can use the Infestation ability to take control. You'll have to infest the Command Center fairly quickly because once in the red zone, a Terran unit will slowly lose hit points until it has none left.

Infested Terran, which can only be made at Infested Command Centers, are kamikaze soldiers. They run up to their target and explode, damaging anything in the blast radius.

It's best not to use Infested Terran together, because if one explodes at its target, then the other in the blast radius will also be destroyed before they have a chance to do any damage.
3. How do Drones create buildings?

Answer: They mutate into them

Once a Drone mutates into a building, it's a building forever. You can not bring a Drone back, but you can create new ones from Larva. It is always a good idea to keep at least one drone around so you don't get caught unable to make any more. If your Hatcheries, Lairs, and Hives are destroyed, you can always have that Drone mutate into a new Hatchery and rebuild.
4. When an Egg hatches into a Zergling, not only one is produced. How many Zerglings are created when an Egg morphs into them?

Answer: Two

First you must select what a Larva will become. Depending on which unit it's morphing into, it may spend more time in its Egg form than other. Zerglings, being the most basic Zerg military unit, are fairly cheap and inexpensive, plus you always get two from one Larva.
5. What can Mutalisks mutate into?

Answer: Guardians

Guardians are heavily armored flying units that can deal out a lot of damage, but they can't attack other air units. In "Brood War" Mutalisks can also mutate into Devourers. Devourers can attack enemy air units, but not ground units.
6. What are Hydralisks created from?

Answer: Larva

As with almost all Zerg units, Hydralisks are created from Larva. The few units that don't come from Larva can be spawned or morphed into by other units.
7. How do the Zerg increase their population limit?

Answer: By spawning Overlords

Overlords are large flying creatures that must be spawned from Larva. They're nice to have around the base because of their status as a detector (they can see units that would otherwise be cloaked), and when upgraded they can also ferry troops around the battlefield with a carapace.
8. What does a Hatchery mutate into?

Answer: Lair

A Hatchery is the Zerg version of a Terran Command Center or Protoss Nexus. A Hatchery can mutate into a Lair which is a stronger version of the Hatchery and also allows your Drones to mutate into a wider variety of buildings. After a Lair, it can mutate again into a Hive, which is the final and toughest form of the Hatchery, while also allowing you Drone to mutate into even more buildings.
9. Which is not a Defiler ability?

Answer: Ensnare

The Defiler's Dark Swarm ability allows it to cover an area so enemy air units can't attack it. When a group of your units is being attacked by enemy air units, you can just put up a protective cloud to shield you units from harm. The Plague ability allows a Defiler to launch a cloud of poisonous spores that will damage any biological enemy units that wander into it. Finally, the Consume ability allows a Defiler to eat other Zerg units to replenish energy to use the first two abilities.
10. What are the creatures that give commands in battle called?

Answer: Cerebrates

Cerebrates are battlefield Overminds. They control certain Zerg broods when fighting, and, like the Overmind, can only be killed by Dark Templar. If they're not killed by these Protoss units, they will regenerate.
