Super Mario Bros. 2 Trivia Quiz

A new feature that Nintendo introduced in the second "Mario Bros." game was to allow the user to select what character they would like to play with. There are four characters that you can select from; Mario, Luigi, Princess, and Toad. Each of the characters have their own advantages and disadvantages. The following are some advantages and disadvantages to each character:

Mario - He is able to pick up items very quickly, however, he cannot jump as high as other characters.

Luigi - Luigi can jump higher than the other three characters (especially when doing a super jump). A disadvantage is that he is often awkward to control while in the air.

Princess - Princess is able to float across the screen for a limited period of time, however, she is the slowest lifter out of the four characters.

Toad - Toad is able to run very fast and can pick up items extremely quickly. Toad is the shortest of the four characters and therefore cannot jump very high (even with the super jump). Toad should only be used by experienced "Mario Bros." players.

Answer: Fireball

In "Super Mario Bros. 2", Nintendo did not continue their feature of having fireballs for weapons. Instead, the user is able to use a variety of different weapons including vegetables (that can be taken from the ground), invincibility stars, POW's (that kill all enemies on the screen), and bombs (these must be timed right or you will miss your target).

Answer: Keys

"Super Mario Bros. 2" has many levels in which the user must obtain a key in order to open unlocked doors. The tricky part is that the user must get the key to the door without getting injured or killed. Phanto comes alive as soon as the key is picked up and will only leave the user alone if the key is dropped. Once the locked door has been opened, Phanto will also go back to sleep.

Answer: Outer Space

"Super Mario Bros. 2" introduced the user to new and often difficult worlds. Some of the worlds are:

1. Desert - In this world, the user must enter pyramids and dig in the sand to discover items and pass levels.
2. Ice and Snow - The user must be careful not to slip and fall off of the ice blocks.
3. Waterfalls - The user must go down the waterfalls and hope to land on the ledges below.
4. Tropical - In this world, you cross bridges and enter caves.

Answer: Slot Machine

The user must collect coins throughout each level in order to have a chance to play the slot machine in between levels. The amount of coins you collect during the level will determine how many tries you will have at the slot machine.

Answer: Collecting cherries

Collecting cherries is the only way to obtain a Starman in "Super Mario Bros. 2". Once enough cherries are obtained, a star will float onto the screen. If the user is able to get the Starman, they are able to become invincible for a limited amount of time.

Answer: To bomb walls or bricks

The user is able to bomb walls and bricks in order to move through to other stages of a level. In earlier levels of the game, it is easy for the user to blow up walls and bricks as they can usually just drop a bomb and move out of the way. In more difficult levels, the user often has to stand on top of a ledge and time the bomb so that it will reach the walls before exploding.

Answer: Whales

In the ice world, a few of the levels allow the user to ride their character up to the cloud platforms up above. You must be careful however, as if you don't time the water correctly, you may hit it at the wrong time and lose an energy heart.

Answer: Eggs or Fire

Birdo must be defeated before you can advance to the next level. In earlier levels, Birdo only spits eggs out of his mouth. In order to defeat him, you must jump on top of the egg, pick it up, and throw it back at Birdo. Once you hit him three times, he dies. Once he dies, the door to the next level opens and you can enter. During later levels of the game however, Birdo spits out both fire and eggs. You must avoid the fire or you will lose energy. On a few other levels, Birdo only spits out fire and the user must use an object that has been provided on that level to defeat Birdo.

Answer: Wart

Wart is the only final boss to appear in any Mario platform game other than Bowser and Bowser Jr. At the end of level 7.2, the user must defeat Wart. Wart has a severe allergy to vegetables and therefore, these are the only items that can be used to defeat him.

A musical type device at the bottom of the screen spits out various vegetables and you have to throw them into Wart's open mouth. After a certain amount of vegetables, Wart dies and the user has officially passed the game.
