Answer: Luigi

Luigi is Mario's taller, thinner brother. Yoshi's first starring role was in "Super Mario World". The name "Peach" came along in "Super Mario 64" then she had a different name.

2. Princess Peach had a different name in this game and the next few, but her role was always the same as a damsel in distress. What was she called in this game?

Answer: Toadstool

When they gave her the name "Peach", Toadstool became her last name. She was still a princess at this time.

3. "Mushroom Retainer" was the then-name for what cute Mario character?

Answer: Toad

When you get to the last level in each world (excluding the last), instead of finding Princess Toadstool, you find a Mushroom Retainer. He got the name Toad in "Super Mario Bros. 2".

4. What is the name of the boss at the end of every world?

Answer: King Koopa/Bowser

King Koopa, as he was referred to as in "Super Mario Bros.", would later be dubbed Bowser. He would also reappear in later games.

The green mushroom is a 1-up; the red mushroom turns you into Super Mario/Luigi; the pruple mushroom doesn't exist in this game, but in others it's a poison mushroom that changes you from Super Mario/Luigi to regular Mario/Luigi. The Fire Flower gives Mario or Luigi the ability to shoot fire balls.

10. How do you defeat boss of the game?

Answer: By touching the axe behind him

Jumping on his head as any form of Mario will kill you and there are no Koopa Troopa shells anywhere. There's also another way to beat him by shooting him with fire balls.
