Answer: A tragic fire

Although Sebastian Castellanos escaped Beacon and the STEM at the end of "The Evil Within", this second story commences with another horrible nightmare, this time involving a fire tearing through his house and taking the lives of his daughter, Lily, and her nanny. Three years later, Kidman shows up in front of him at a bar and suggests that Lily is still alive...and she and MOBIUS need his help to find her.

They've been using her for their new STEM machine and she's been lost inside as it's started to collapse. If Sebastian can go in and locate Lily, they can extract them both. And so in he goes, using a mind-created replica of his Krimson City P.D. offices as a home base and starting his journey through the darkest recesses of STEM.

Answer: Union

The mission isn't so simple. As Sebastian navigates through the seemingly all-American town of Union on his hunt for Lily, he discovers that the place is swarming from creatures not unlike what he faced in Beacon. Additionally, a handful of MOBIUS operatives have gotten scattered throughout the area.

The first he finds is O'Neal, who has a safehouse in Union. The goal, to begin, is for Sebastian to use his finely-tuned communicator to locate and track resonances found throughout Union, following Lily's movements from when she was in the area.

Answer: Gas mask

O'Neal suggests to Sebastian that he needs to get to the other side of town which, unfortunately, is suspended above their current fragment of Union. The goal is to get to city hall, but to do that, Sebastian needs to go into The Marrow, seemingly the backstage of Union used by MOBIUS operatives, but the catch is that it's also been infiltrated by the creatures. Additionally, O'Neal needs to hand off a protective gas mask as portions of The Marrow contain toxic gases.

When Sebastian dons this item, the player's vision changes to first-person instead of the over-the-shoulder third-person view.

Answer: Camera

The fifth chapter takes Sebastian through City Hall searching for the object f O'Neal's concern-- the Stable Field Emitter-- which will stabilize the destruction of Union and reduce the power of the entity in control. After a bit of a hassle getting in, Sebastian will receive a communicator from another MOBIUS operative, Harrison, which will allow him to turn on the emitter, but not before a boss battle against evil photographer Stefano's camera-fuelled creation, Obscura, which has the power to stop time. If Sebastian can defeat this beast, he can head back to O'Neal to continue.

Answer: Yukiko Hoffman

This chapter sends Sebastian back into the Marrow in order to navigate his way to what appears to be the next destination of focus-- the Grand Theatre. It requires a bit of a deep dive though; Sebastian will have only encountered the Marrow once or twice before, barely scratching the surface of the labyrinthine corridors now full of foes.

At the end of the path, he'll come across another safe house, this one held by MOBIUS psychologist Yukiko Hoffman, whose terminal connects to a Post Plus location near the Grand Theatre.

Answer: Two

Arriving in this section of Union, Sebastian needs to not only (likely) secure a safe house in the middle of the area, but dodge guardians and all sorts of enemies throughout the city streets. It will all come down to following the resonances to two locations: the Sanctuary Hotel and the Devil's Own Taproom. Both of these spots are on opposite sides of the map, but each one contains a painting that needs to be destroyed before access to the next destination is granted.

The hunt for Stefano Valentini continues into the Grand Theatre in this chapter, and the search for Lily, 'the core', persists. Stefano's powers will continue to grow as he kills more for his art and it will cause Sebastian to pursue him into an alternate reality. All of this will culminate in one large battle in an art gallery against Stefano and the camera eye in the sky, and if Sebastian can defeat him, he can finally set his eyes upon Lily herself. If only it were so easy.

As Sebastian goes to reclaim his daughter, the ghastly, hooded spectre of Myra, his wife, arrives to take Lily away, and Sebastian falls into oblivion.

Forced to descend into a series of catacombs, Sebastian's search for Lily continues through rough stone passages and locked cells for what must be torture subjects. A disembodied voice brings him along, leading him not only through these trials, but to a vision of his old house shortly before it erupts in flames. Ultimately, this trail leads to a man claiming to be Father Theodore, who asserts that he can reunite the detective and his daughter if he is allowed to keep the core for himself. Sebastian refuses, so he is sent away and urged to return when he's ready to be folded into the flock.

Answer: Flamethrower

The tenth chapter of the game begins with Sebastian awakening to a cabin under assault, and only Esmeralda Torres is keeping the enemies at bay. If he can assist, they can both depart with haste to their next destination, a safe house a short distance away through the Union Nature Preserve.

As it turns out, at least according to Torres, Kidman had always planned to help Sebastian out by taking out Mobius from the inside, and all of that was part of a plan put forth by Myra, his wife. The only catch is that Father Theodore is in on it, and that certainly complicates matters.

Answer: O'Neal

Sebastian returns to the Marrow to follow Hoffman who, as it seems, is in pursuit of O'Neal, but the chase is interrupted by one final trip into his memories to destroy the part of himself still connected to the STEM. It all ends up leading to a confrontation with O'Neal, who was particularly taken by Father Theodore's work and donned the flamethrower garb to enact his requests.

The only way to win is to kill him, and by doing this, Sebastian, Hoffman, and Torres can locate the machine O'Neal built to hide Father Theodore and destroy it.

Answer: Myra

Sebastian is sent to the ruinous remains of his family home in pursuit of lily and Father Theodore and the experience is overwhelming enough that he is unable to see the difference between reality and delusion. When Sebastian finally catches up to his daughter, he fires at Theodore but ends up hitting Torres in his confusion back in the Marrow.

He ends up retreating into his memories while Torres gets him back to Hoffman's safe house and succumbs to her wounds, and in doing so he receives a supportive and motivating message from Myra asking that he forgive himself for what's happened to Lily.

Answer: Hoffman

To be honest, Hoffman is the only MOBIUS operative still remaining by this point as all of the others will have died during the course of the story or, in Sykes' case, taken a chance (in a side mission) to return himself to the real world. In the meantime, Father Theodore creates a fiery stronghold near the Grand Theatre, and to get inside, Sebastian and Hoffman need to make use of O'Neal's final invention, a mobile Field Stabilizer, to break through. Sebastian will make it, but a late rush of enemies will keep Hoffman down and she won't reach the stronghold in time to avoid being consumed by flames.

Answer: Three

Getting through the sanctuary to the top, Sebastian will vow to save his daughter and incite the wrath of Father Theodore, whose goal is to control Union and MOBIUS with it to, in the end, control the world. It will lead to a sequence in which Sebastian is sent back to Beacon to face off against the foe with the chainsaw, The Keeper, and the multi-legged boss from "The Evil Within". All of them will be forms taken on by Father Theodore and, in the end, his plan will go up in flames. Myra will arrive to deal the final blow against him before destroying the Sanctuary (and, soon after, Union) and leaving Sebastian in the rubble.

Answer: Myra

There seems to be no getting through to Myra who, taken over by evil, vows to protect Lily at all costs. She blocks Sebastian at every turn, forcing him to fight foes throughout the rapidly deteriorating town of Union, and inevitably she has to destroy the whole thing.

It lands Sebastian in a sort of purgatory where, advancing up a snowy mountain, he has to reach his old house in the distance. It all culminates in a final battle against the beast that Myra has become, and after, if Sebastian succeeds, he can figure out how to rescue their daughter.

Answer: Kidman

Sebastian will rush to find Lily, but there's more going on in the real world as the MOBIUS operatives come to find that their simulation has failed. Kidman, still on Myra and Sebastian's side, works to take down MOBIUS from within as the collapse of Union occurs.

She runs through the compound and locks herself into the STEM chamber to begin the extraction. Sebastian and Lily flee while Myra, gravely injured, stays back to put an end to MOBIUS, and as they escape through the mirror in Sebastian's office, all of MOBIUS' men are eliminated via the chips in their heads. Sebastian and Lily head out and Kidman goes her separate way while back in the compound, some time later, STEM turns itself back on.
