Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Certain moves are universal to all "Mortal Kombat" characters, meaning every character can perform them. What move is always "back + B"?

Answer: Sweep kick

While every character shares the sweep kick move (which is a low-hitting kick that knocks down a non-blocking opponent), the aesthetic appearance of the move may change based on the character. Such characters like Cyrax and Scorpion literally perform a sweeping kick, while a character like Reptile performs a dropkick to the opponent's ankles.

The other three incorrect answers are also all universal moves shared by all characters, but they are performed with different button inputs.
2. All the move list combos in the game are given a name. What is the name of Scorpion's "X, X, X" combo?

Answer: Torment

The Torment combo is one of the simpler and easiest combos to pull off in the game. The move, aesthetically, is a jab to the jaw, an elbow to the shoulder, and a flaming uppercut. It is a 3-hit combo that deals 12% damage.

Damnation, Brimstone, and Takeout are other combos or special moves of Scorpion.
3. Which of the following does Johnny Cage NOT exclaim when performing his Eclipse Kick special move?

Answer: "Johnny Cage!"

Johnny Cage is one of the most gloating characters in the game, slipping in a quip after almost every special move and fatality he performs. Cage only exclaims "Johnny Cage!" after he performs his Ultra Flipkick special move ("down, back + A + RT"), however. Other clever comments that he makes include "Don't hate!" immediately after successfully performing his babality, and "Money shot!" when hitting his classic Nutcracker special move ("back, down + X + RT").

Johnny Cage's Eclipse Kick is performed by pressing "back, forward + B + RT."
4. Shang Tsung's signature special move, aptly named Soul Steal, transforms Shang Tsung into the opponent's character for a short duration, as well as gives an added damage boost. When using Shang Tsung's enhanced Soul Steal (called the Soul Capture), what is one of the perks the move gains?

Answer: A longer duration

Shang Tsung's Soul Steal ("forward, down, back + A") lasts approximately six seconds, while his enhanced Soul Capture ("forward, down, back + A + RT") lasts approximately nine seconds. The move has no other perks besides adding Super Armor when performed (meaning that if you are hit while performing the move, your move is not interrupted and cancelled) and executing a little faster.

Also, when Shang Tsung performs the Soul Steal or Soul Capture on an opponent who is also playing as Shang Tsung (even if they are using an alternative costume), you remain the same way you are and just receive a temporary damage boost.
5. Which is the only projectile that Smoke's anti-projectile special move, Shake, cannot counter?

Answer: Smoke's Smoke Cloud

Oddly enough, Smoke is the only character that Smoke cannot projectile-counter with Shake ("back, forward + X"). When enhanced, Smoke's Shake turns into Vibrate ("back, forward + X + RT"), which can even counter melee attacks, such as kicks, punches, and even other special moves.

However, Vibrate can still not counter Smoke's Smoke Cloud ("down, back + Y"), or its enhanced version, Smoke Bomb ("down, back + Y + RT").
6. Which of these characters does NOT have an unblockable X-Ray attack?

Answer: Sindel

Sindel's X-Ray attack can be blocked if you are blocking low.

Sheeva's X-Ray is only avoidable if you jump at the right time; otherwise, it will hit you from any distance if you are on the ground.

Jax's and Kano's X-Ray attacks are both grab X-Rays, meaning they will hit you if you are blocking and within range, no matter what. They also have Super Armor, meaning they cannot be interrupted and cancelled with pokes (i.e. quick punches, jabs, or kicks) or other attacks. The only downside is that they have a slow start time, giving you a moment to dash or jump out of the way of the grab before it makes contact with you.

X-Ray attacks are executed by pressing "LT + RT."
7. Which character has an enhanced special move that "locks on" to the opponent?

Answer: Sektor

The enhanced version of Sektor's Up Missile (Above) ("down, back + A") turns into Homing Missile ("down, back + A + RT"), which places a green, square crosshair on the opponent as Sektor aims his chest to the sky and fires a missile from his chest cavity that will follow the opponent until it hits them. The missile cannot be avoided but can be blocked. Also, when robot Sektor performs Homing Missile, he says, "Target acquired."

When human Sektor does the Homing Missile, he doesn't say anything, and instead of raising his chest to the sky, he raises his arm and fires the missile from his wrist device.
8. Which character has the most unique X-Ray attack in terms of how you perform it?

Answer: Cyber Sub-Zero

Cyber Sub-Zero has the most unique X-Ray of the bunch because it is the only X-Ray in the game that needs to be executed while in the air. (Kitana also has an aerial X-Ray, but it can be executed on the ground, as well.) The X-Ray of Baraka, Reptile, and Stryker are all blockable, high-hitting X-Rays performed while standing with nothing particularly special about them in terms of execution.
9. When using the enhanced version of Quan Chi's Trance, named Mesmerize, what happens to the opponent in addition to the 1% damage and temporary stun?

Answer: It drains super meter

Using Quan Chi's Mesmerize ("back, forward + A + RT") spins the opponent around and puts them into a trance for about four seconds, forcing them to walk forward; it only does 1% damage, but it will drain a little less than one bar of your opponent's super meter at most. The Trance ("back, forward + A") move simply does 1% damage and stuns them for the same four seconds with no super meter drain.

Both moves can also be used while doing a combo to extend the combo even further.
10. Which of the following is NOT a combo of Noob Saibot?

Answer: We Win

Evil Twin, Possessed, and Sneaky Saibot are all moderately damaging combos of Noob Saibot.

We Win is actually an Ermac combo, which may seem odd seeing as though Noob Saibot actually has the help of a shadow to fight with him (thus giving justification to the "we"), while Ermac does not. However, Ermac was created and fused together with many different souls by Shao Kahn, so Ermac is comprised of many others. Ermac also refers to himself in the plural first person, such as "we," "our," and "us," as opposed to "I," "my," and "me." This is displayed in his quote at the start of a match: "We are many; you are but one."
