1. After the opening cutscene you see the first male character jump off the train and take a Shinra guard down. He is one of the five members of AVALANCHE. What is his name?

Answer: Biggs

Two characters initially jump off this train. Biggs jumps off almost simultaneously with the first of the two female members of the AVALANCHE group called Jessie who takes down the second of the two guards on the platform. After this they run off ahead.

2. The next character you meet is the leader of AVALANCHE, Barret. Is he also the first of the main characters who you can have in your main party during the game?

Answer: True

Barret leads the AVALANCHE group and you can use him in your pary for the majority of the game. Initially you must use him as your party can consist of up to three members and he is only involved with the main protagonist of the game at this point. There are also parts later in the game where again he is required in the party either to make the numbers up or to continue the storyline.

3. The main character is next to be seen. His name is Cloud Strife, a Freelance Mercenary and formerly a member of Shinra's Elite force called SOLDIER. He was First Class which was the highest rank in SOLDIER. When he enters his first battle his name does not appear as Cloud. What does it say instead?

Answer: Ex-SOLDIER

Cloud's name is not revealed until you reach the three members of AVALANCHE who are working on opening a door leading to the first Reactor you attack in the game. Biggs says "Didn't catch your name." You then have the choice to name Cloud (Cloud is his default name but you can choose another.) Then you meet up with Barret and you continue into the Reactor.

4. On the next mission you set out to blow up a second Reactor. After the bomb has been set and you make your way out you walk into a trap set by the Shinra. After this President Shinra has a short coversation with you. What is the term he refers to your small party as?

Answer: Vermin

After President Shinra calls you Vermin Barret loses his (very volatile!) temper and has a go at him saying "VERMIN? is that all you can say, VERMIN! You Shinra are the VERMIN killing the planet so that makes you KING VERMIN, so shut up!" Then President Shinra clicks his fingers summoning the Boss Airbuster. He says he has a dinner to attend and leaves you to fight Airbuster.

5. The next part of the story follows Cloud after falling from the bridge Airbuster destroyed on his demise. He falls through the roof of a Church in the Sector 5 Slums and meets the Flower Girl Aeris. After a visit to her house you make your way to Sector 6 to get to Seventh Heaven (the Bar Tifa runs and the AVALANCHE hideout). Along the way you see Tifa dressed up and going somewhere in a Chocobo drawn cart. You follow the cart and end up in Wall Market. There is a famous man living here who is in the market for a bride. What is his name?

Answer: Don Corneo

This part of the game is extremely funny as when you find out Tifa is at Don Corneo's mansion, Cloud has to dress in drag to get in! Don Corneo picks one of the girls (Tifa, Aeris or Cloud!) and takes them to his room. If Cloud is picked then the other girls come in after a short converstaion with the Don. If either Aeris or Tifa is picked Cloud must first fight off a few guards on his own, pick up the other girl who was not chosen by the Don, and bust into his room.

The Don reveals a secret (hesitantly, but threats against his manhood loosens his tongue!) that the Shinra are going to destroy the Sector 7 Slums.

As you go to leave he drops you through a trap door and has the last laugh. However there is an optional part later in the game and if you do this you see Don Corneo meet a sticky end!

6. You meet four different members of a group known as "The Turks" in the game. They are a small company run by Shinra (and you fight them several times in the game). They are supposed to scout out possible candidates for SOLDIER. However they are also involved in a lot of "...dirty stuff: spying, murder, you know." (these are Clouds words). What is the name of the first Turk you meet?

Answer: Reno

Reno is the first Turk you meet and he attempts to stop you when you are trying to disarm the bomb that is going to destroy the pillar holding up the plate above the Sector 7 Slums. Unfortunately, even after you defeat him and he runs off the pillar explodes and the plate still falls, destroying the Sector 7 Slums (your three party members escape...barely!)

7. The next Turk you see is their leader Tseng. He taunts you from a helicoptor after you defeat Reno saying "You'll have a hard time disarming that one. It'll blow the second some stupid jerk touches it." Barret replies and begins firing at the helicopter. Tseng's next line is "I wouldn't try that if I were you. It just might make me injure our special guest."?

Answer: True

Tseng has actually kidnapped Aeris while your main party was busy doing other things. Tifa (another AVALANCHE member and owner of the Seventh Heaven bar in the Sector 7 Slums) asked Aeris to go to the bar and take Marlene (Barret's adopted daughter) somewhere safe. Before Tseng flies off with her she shout's out "Don't worry she's safe" and receives a stinging slap from Tseng for her troubles.

8. When Don Corneo fills you in on the Shinra's plans for Sector 7 you hear the name Heidegger. The Don says he is the "head of public safety maintenance." You see Heidegger chatting to President Shinra. Who does Heidegger say he assigned to do the job of destroying Sector 7?

Answer: The Turks

When President Shinra asks how the plans are going Heidegger says "Smoothly, very smoothly. I assigned the Turks to do this." Heidegger appears several times in the game (he is more like the General of Shinra's Troops and the Turks' boss), and eventually he dies when you destroy him in the Proud Cloud boss near the end of the game.

As a note Shinra does not actually have a Police force but regular Shinra Troops deal with law enforcement.

9. During the chat between Heidegger and Presidnet Shinra, there is also another member of Shinra, Inc. in the room. His name is Reeve. Later in the game you meet another party member who insists you recruit him. This character is actually Reeve spying on you for the Shinra. What is the name of the character he is controlling called?

Answer: Cait Sith

You meet Cait Sith at the Gold Saucer and after he tells your fortune (rather unsuccessfully!) he insists on joining you. The best thing about this character is that he has a Silver Armlet equipped (strongest armour at this point so you could give it to someone else if you do not use Cait Sith) and the excellent Manipulate Materia.

As for the wrong answers Boxer was an optional character who was actually removed from the released editon of the game. Mog is a Moogle of the small variety (there are many of these in "Final Fantasy IX" for the Playstation) and in the Gold Saucer there is a game called Mog House featuring a small Moogle called Mog). Cait Sith is actually a small cat that rides on top a large toy cat which is being controlled by Reeve.

10. The next male character is seen when you spy on a secret Shinra meeting when you infiltrate the Shinra HQ building. He is sitting at a table with a number of other Shinra executive members. He is a very fat man and the Head of the Shinra Space Program. What is his name?

Answer: Palmer

This man is also encounterd later in the game. At one point you have to fight him but afterwards you obtain the second of the five types of transport in the game. It is a plane called the Tiny Bronco but as you escape on it, it gets shot at and it is used as a boat that can navigate rivers and shallow patches of water after crash landing in the sea.

This is the first point in the game where an optional sidequest is available.

11. While spying on the Shinra executives' meeting a man enters the room part way through. He is the Shinra's head scientist. What is his name?

Answer: Hojo

Hojo is a scientist who took over for the previous Shinra scientist Professor Gast. He does biological experiments and other scientific work for the Shinra but he quits them later in the game. You can meet him up to three more times in the game. First (which is optional) is on the beach at Costa Del Sol.

The second time you meet him is in the Northern Cave where Weapon is, and finally in Midgar where you find out some interesting information about him and defeat him in battle. He is the last boss in the story before the final boss of the game.

12. The next character you meet is the Mayor of Midgar. Is his name Domingo?

Answer: False

The Mayor of Midgar's name is actually Domino. When you first meet him he tells you how he is Mayor, in name only, as the city is run by Shinra. His only real job is looking over Shinra documents. He says that he will give you his keycard to the next floor if you guess his password.

He also adds if you get it right on the first try he will throw in a special item. You can buy tips off the Mayor's chef, Hart, but they are a complete waste of money. The way to do this is quite simple. There are four small libraries on this floor and if you read the plaque on each one before entering the room it tells you what the subject the library has info on.

The upper left room is The Peace Presevation/Weapon Development library, the upper right is the Space Development library, the lower left is the Urban Development library and the lower right is the Scientific Research library. If you go into each library in turn you will discover that each shelf has two books on them. Out of the six books in each library one will be in the wrong place (for example "Midgar City Map: Sector 5-8" belongs in the Urban Development library but if it is in one of the other libraries it is not right.) When you find the wrong book there is a number printed before the title. Count this number of letters in to the title of the book to discover one letter of the password.

After doing this in all four libararies you will have a small (but very easy) anagram to solve to get the correct password. However there is an even easier way! If you go to the upper right (the Space Development Research) library and you check the book on the left side of the middle shelf you will find one of these four books there: "2 Economic Report: Space Development Program", "1 Results of Failed Space Mission "YA-79"", "1 Breakdown of SOLDIER Members by Class" and finally "10 New Plans for Urban Planning". The passwords are as follows for the four books: Book 1 is BEST, Book 2 is KING, Book 3 is BOMB and Book 4 is MAKO. The third way is to talk to the Mayor and when you say ready to answer choose the option "Wait a second." Leave the Shinra building and save your game outside the main entrance. Return to the Mayor and keep guessing until you get the correct password. After finding this out, reset your game and go back to the Mayor quoting the password that you just found to be correct and presto, correct first time! If you get it right on the first try you get an Elemental Materia to go with the keycard for the next floor.

13. Your next main male character you meet becomes part of your party. He quotes his name to be Red XIII (which is what Hojo has named him) but tells you to call him what you wish. Later in the game you arrive at Cosmo Canyon, Red XIII's hometown. Here you find out his real name, but what is it?

Answer: Nanaki

When you first arrive at Cosmo Canyon, Red XIII bursts on ahead crying out "I am home. It is I, Nanaki!" When Cloud goes to enter he stupidly asks "Who is Nanaki" but is told "Nanaki is Nanaki, that's his name." It is possible that at this point your buggy may have broken down. If it has you can talk to a man dressed like a construction worker who will fix it for you.

14. You next meet the third male member of the Turks. As you enter the glass elevator to go to the 63rd floor to escape the Shinra buliding, a Turk with a bald head and sunglasses steps in behind you. What is his name?

Answer: Rude

Cloud enters the elevator and then Rude steps into the elevator and says "Would you push up please?" Cloud turns round and says "Turks. Must be a trap." Tseng then enters the lift and says "It must have been a real thrill for you; did you enjoy it?" Cloud's reply to this is "Gg."

15. The next male NPC you meet is the 'new' president of the Shinra Corporation, Rufus. He is the Shinra President's son but has become president due to his father's murder. After you are treated to his new 'appointment speech', Cloud tells Barret to get out of the building with Aeris telling him "This is the real crisis for the planet." Barret replies with "What's that supposed to mean?" Cloud then says "I'll tell you later. Just take my word for it. I'll meet up with you when I've dealt with him." Your party makes their escape from the Shinra building via the glass elevator (this party consisting of Aeris, Barret and Red XIII have to fight the two bosses Hundred Gunner followed by Heli Gunner to escape), and then the scene switches back to Cloud and Rufus. After a short exchange of words you have to fight Rufus. Rufus is joined in this fight with a 'guardian'. What is this guardian called?

Answer: Dark Nation

Cloud and Rufus's fight is fairly short and easy if you approach it correctly. The best way is to kill Dark Nation quickly (it is weak against the fire element), as he casts support magic on Rufus (he will always get the first turn and cast Barrier on Rufus which cuts physical damage attacks in half) and if he continues to live on he will attack Cloud with Bolt spells.

When he is dealt with you can turn your attention to Rufus, whose only attack is to shoot you with his shotgun. There are various ways to tackle him but the best way is to use the Bio spell to poison him then cast damage spells such as Fire, Bolt or Ice (curing if the need arises) and using your Limit Break Cross Slash (if you get a chance to), as this will paralyze Rufus for a short period allowing you to cause damage without taking any. Using this strategy, this fight is a piece of cake!

16. After escaping from the Shinra building (there is very cool cutscene when you do this!) you decide to leave Midgar and go on a journey to kill the man who is trying to destroy the planet. When you get on to the World Map you have to head northeast to a small town called Kalm. While there Cloud tells you a story explaining the problem. What is the name of the man who the party is going after?

Answer: Sephiroth

You will have heard Sephiroth's name mentioned a few times already during the game, but the first time you see him is when Cloud is telling his story (you actually play as Cloud in the story). Sephiroth is branded the greatest SOLDIER ever and his story is legend. Cloud explains how he signed up for a mission when he became Firt Class in SOLDIER at the age of 16 and was accompanied in this mission with Sephiroth.

After some unusual secrets are discovered, Sephiroth finds out something about his 'real' origins and goes a little mad and burns down the town of Nibelheim (Cloud and Tifa's hometown and where this story is set).

After he has finished the story, the party continues on their journey to kill Sephiorth and save the planet (Cloud also wants to kill Sephiroth to settle his troubled past.)

17. During Cloud's story, you can meet a man who is Tifa's Martial Arts teacher (Tifa is his 'star' student). Is his name Zorgan?

Answer: False

His name is actually Zangan. You find out later in the game (if you return to Nibelheim on the third and final disc and play her piano correctly) that Zangan saved Tifa's life after Nibelheim was burnt down by taking her to Midgar after she was struck down by Sephiroth. Doing this also obtains you Tifa's extreme Limit Break Final Heaven.

18. This man walks around in large trunks and speaks with a very commanding voice. He is the manager of the Gold Saucer. What is his name?

Answer: Dio

You meet Dio at least two times during the game (you can meet him three times depending on where you visit when you go to the Gold Saucer for the first time). The first meeting with him is in the Battle Arena area after Cait Sith joins your party. Someone has been on a rampage and shot a lot of the people in the Arena.

He thinks Cloud and his friends have done this and throws them into the Desert Prison. The second time you meet him is in his Showroom (also in the Battle Arena area) when you get the Keystone to enter the Temple of the Ancients.

19. While in the Desert Prison you have to find a man who has a gun grafted into his left arm (Barret has got a gun grafted into his right arm). He is the one responsible for shooting the people at the Battle Arena. He is an ex-friend of Barret's. What is his name?

Answer: Dyne

Dyne has never forgiven Barret for what happened to Corel (Barret and Dyne's hometown). Corel was burned down by Shinra Troops while Barret and Dyne were out of town. Dyne did not want the Corel Reactor to be built but the rest of Corel was against him, including Barret. On their way back from being away an old man runs up to them and tells them that the town is being attacked by Shinra Troops.

Some Shinra Soldiers then arrive and shoot the old man and start shooting at Barret and Dyne. Dyne loses his footing and falls into a ravine. Barret catches him by the arm.

However, they are shot in the arms and Dyne falls to the bottom of the ravine. It is also revealed that Dyne is Marlene's biological father, but Barret adopted her and raised her as his own after finding her alive in Corel.

20. Cosmo Canyon is a stop that is mandatory (the Buggy you have at this time breaks down practically in front of it). This is Red XIII's hometown. Here you meet his very old grandfather. What is his name?

Answer: Bugenhagen

Bugenhagen is a very clever man and during the game he helps you out. During your first visit he shows you his impressive observatory and teaches you the basics of Planet Life. The second time you see him is soon after Meteor has been summoned and he comes with you to the City of the Ancients (before you leave the Huge Materia you have collected in his observatory). You can visit him agian on the final disc; if you do he gives you Red XIII's Ultimate Weapon, the Limited Moon.

21. The next character you can meet is optional but if you obtain him he can be become a permanent member of your band of heroes. His name is Vincent and he is an ex-member of The Turks. However, while speaking to him he doesn't initially call them the Turks - he says he was involved in what area of work?

Answer: Administrative Research

Vincent is found sleeping in a coffin in a room in the basement of the Shinra Mansion in Nibelheim. To obtain him as a party member you have to open a safe in the Shinra Mansion which contains the key to the basement (you have to defeat a boss when you open the safe and you also gain Red XIII's Extreme Limit Break and the Odin Summon Materia for opening the safe). You must repeatedly talk to Vincent until he says "Just let me sleep." During the conversations you have with him he tells you his name and his ex-occupation and about Sephiroth's birth mother. You then go to the library to see Sephiroth.

As you go to leave Vincent says "Wait," and asks "If I go with you will I meet Hojo?" Cloud replies "I dunno but we're after him and Sephiroth so I guess sooner or later." Vincnet finishes by saying "Lucrecia".

22. Cid is the next (and final) party member you get during the game. He is an ex-Shinra pilot who was also supposed to be the first man in space in the rocket that is leaning over in the town where he lives (which is suprisingly named Rocket Town!)l Things didn't go right and he never went into space but was it his fault?

Answer: No

When the rocket was set for launch Shera (a member of the crew who was preparing and checking the rocket) said that the oxygen tank tests were not satisfactory and she would continue checking them even though the countdown to the launch had started. As the rocket just started to lift it stopped and dropped back on to the Launch Pad, then fell to the side before stopping, leaving it tilted. Cid had pushed the Emergency Engine shutdown switch to save Shera's life.

23. Wutai is a place you can visit (it's optional) after gaining the Tiny Bronco. If you have gained Yuffie (one of two optional characters you can obtain in the game) she will steal all your Materia as you head towards Wutai. When you reach Wutai and finish the episode there (which gets you your Materia back) you can do an optional sidequest to gain Yuffie's Extreme Limit Break, All Creation and the Water Summon, Leviathan. To do this you must climb a pagoda and defeat a small boss on every floor (Yuffie does these battles one on one). When you reach the fifth and final floor Yuffie must take on her old man (they don't have a good father-daughter realtionship at this point!). What is his name?

Answer: Godo

The pagoda climb can be a difficult one. It depends on how much training Yuffie has had before you get here and how you set her up for each individual battle. The first floor is guarded by Gorky, the second by Shake, third Chekkov, fourth Staniv and finally Godo on the fifth.

Theoretically each battle should get harder as you go up (although I think the first one is harder than the following three). As for Godo he is without a doubt the hardest one and in many cases some players may have to return here later if they cannot defeat him at this point.

24. During one part of the game you enter an area called the Great Glacier. You have to get through this area and climb a large cliff called Gaea's Cliff. During the visit you may pass out and be saved (or if you don't you will reach a house at the base of the cliff). In either case you will meet the man who lives in this housem but what is his name?

Answer: Mr. Holzoff

It is easy to get lost in the Great Glacier even though you have a map of the area. There are several places of interest and some excellent items and Materia that can be collected. If you intend to collect all the items you are almost guaranteed to pass out at one point. You can pass out several times and you will always awake at Holzoff's house so going back out frequently to collect the items in the Great Glacier is not a dangerous option!

25. During the game you can visit a small village called Gongaga. If you go to the house in the bottom right corner of the village you meet a couple. They notice the glow in Cloud's eye and ask him if he is in SOLDIER. They ask if he knows anything about their son. What is their son's name?

Answer: Zack

If you have Aeris and Tifa in your party they both depart when they hear Zack's name mentioned. When you talk to Aeris you find out this was her ex-boyfriend she never saw again after he went to war. As for Tifa, her answer is a little more mysterious but her reaction shows she clearly knew him. Later in the game you do find out what happened to Zack.

As for the incorrect answers Angeal and Genesis are characters from "Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core" and Zack is the main character of this game. Angeal was Zack's SOLDIER Mentor and Genesis was the General of the war between the Shinra and Wutai. Noah is made up.
