Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The antagonists of the World of Light mode are Galeem and Dharkon. Both come with exactly 6200 Offense and Defense and are classified as Neutral type spirits. How do you unlock them?

Answer: Reach the True Ending

Galeem and Dharkon are both unlocked simultaneously upon reaching the True Ending. You can do this by beating all the spirits in the Final Battle map. In doing so, you will defeat Crazy and Master Hand. Upon achieving this, they will go in between Galeem and Dharkon's positions on the map, crack open the ground, and lure Galeem and Dharkon in close for the player to defeat.

On paper, Galeem and Dharkon have the highest Spirit powers, and could be interpreted as being amazing spirits because of this. While their stats are great, they unfortunately do not have any support spirit slots. This, combined with their Neutral typing - which conveys no advantages over other spirits - largely makes them useless in practice. But, they should be treated like trophies! Legendary spirits are hard to come by as it is!
2. Nintendo has a plethora of franchises within its company. It also has made dealings with third parties to have their franchises represented, such as Sega's "Sonic the Hedgehog" and "Metal Gear Solid"'s Snake. Does every franchise have at least one legendary spirit representing it?

Answer: No

There are 112 total franchises represented in spirits, and there are a total of less than half of that in legendary spirits. Considering that staples such as "Pokémon" and "Super Mario" have multiple legendary spirits, it is obviously impossible for every franchise to have a legendary representative.

However, it is worth noting that some 'forgotten' franchises, such as "F-Zero" and "Mr Game and Watch" do have a legendary representative. The former has Black Shadow and Samurai Goroh, while the latter gets Giant Octopus.
3. One feature about "Spirits" mode is the ability to 'summon' a spirit - to obtain it without having to win a fight to acquire it. Some spirits, such as Galacta Knight, can only be acquired in this way. To summon a spirit, you need cores from other spirits or spirit types. How do you obtain a spirit core?

Answer: By dismissing a spirit or inheriting it onto an Amiibo

By dismissing a spirit, selling it for Spirit Points, or granting its stats and/or attributes to an amiibo, you get the core of whatever spirit you have used. For example, in order to summon a Scizor spirit, you would need the Zebesian spirit core and a Sidestepper spirit core. To gain these cores, you would need to acquire their respective spirits, and then either grant their abilities to an amiibo or sell them for Spirit Points. Doing so would then allow you to summon a Scizor spirit.
4. The Shield Spacer and Sluggish Shield items in Free the Spirit mode can be useful for spirits which are harder to 'shoot'. What do these do?

Answer: Remove some of the shield protecting the fighter and make the shield's rotation slower

In the World of Light campaign, any spirits you defeat are immediately acquired after the battle. If, however, you opted to hunt spirits on the Spirit Board, you would need to win the battle of said spirit, and then enter a Free the Spirit mode, where you essentially 'shoot' the fighter representing the spirit you just defeated. Shooting a fighter which was representing a Novice or Ace spirit is usually pretty easy, since the shield's rotations are very slow, and the gap is pretty large. Ace spirits are harder, while Legendary Spirits can be incredibly hard to successfully hit. Shield Spacers and Sluggish Shields can be used to help put the odds more in your favor, and can sometimes be totally necessary to be successful.
5. Through completing Classic mode with Greninja, venturing into the Bonus Points mode and earning at least 98,000 points unlocks an exclusive, one-time Spirit which can't be earned any other way. What spirit is this?

Answer: Lugia

Lugia is an Ace ranked, Grab type spirit which also gives it user bonus Water damage. This is an incredibly bizarre design choice to make Lugia this way for a few reasons. First, Lugia's fellow cover legendary, Ho-Oh, is a Legendary spirit despite being about on-par with Lugia in the "Pokémon" world. Second, with Lugia's deific defenses still causing it to be nigh unbreakable in the world of "Pokémon", the Shield type would've seemed more sensible than the Grab type it ended up getting. Speaking of which, Lugia's spirit actually has more Offense than Defense, which makes absolutely no sense considering Lugia's defenses are significantly higher than it's below-average Attack stats in "Pokémon" games.
6. Out of these, only two spirits remain as mere Advanced rank after being enhanced. What spirits are these?

Answer: Angry Scarfy and Miniature Mario with Hammers

Enhanceable spirits are ones which begin at a lower rank, but gain a rank (sometimes more) upon being enhanced. This is achieved by leveling up their base forms to level 99, and then selecting the option to enhance them. However, some spirits are somewhat unimpressive, even when enhanced. Angry Scarfy and Miniature Mario with Hammers are virtually useless.

The former has poor stats (by enhanced spirit standards) and the latter has bad stats and a laughably useless, situational attachment of being able to use the Hammer item for a little bit longer.

They are both, however, better than most non-enhanced Advanced rank spirits.
7. Staying true to the franchise's roots, Nintendo implemented two conditions to any "Street Fighter" spirit battle that can cause reminiscence of actual "Street Fighter" games. What two elements are these?

Answer: Lower jump power and stamina battle

In "Street Fighter", jumps are much lower than in a typical Smash game, and they are stamina based, contrasted to typical Smash games which are not. Therefore, whenever you try to fight a "Street Fighter" spirit, such as Guile, Akuma or Chun-Li, you will find that conditions are always entailing lower jump power and a stamina battle.

In some cases, such as against the Dan or Akuma spirits, there is a third condition, but this can vary between "Street Fighter" spirits.
8. One lone Master spirit offers a level-up service, free of charge. Which spirit is this?

Answer: Doc Louis

Master spirits are spirits which are not actually manually equipped by players, but service the player in other ways. Some spirits sell other spirits for Spirit Points, while other Spirits 'train' your Spirits in certain styles. Doc Louis will offer to train up to four spirits at a time for free. You can remove them whenever you'd like, including after they reach the maximum of level 99.
9. Some spirit battles are timed, which may incline the player to turn towards a spirit of their own with high offensive capabilities. Which spirit of the following has the highest amount of Offense in the game?

Answer: Akuma

Akuma has a whopping 7952 Offense, by far the highest in the game. At 7132, Fierce Deity Link is a distant second. However, there may be some instances in which a player might turn to Fierce Deity Link over Akuma. In addition to 7132 Offense, Fierce Deity Link also offers a bonus to Sword attacks and a slot for a support spirit. Akuma, on the other hand, has no support spirit slots and has no other benefits aside from his massive Offense and workable 5254 Defense stat, vastly superior to Fierce Deity Link's 3229.
10. Upon reaching 100% completion status in Spirit Campaign Challenges, a one-time, unique Legendary spirit will be given to the player. What is this spirit?

Answer: Mew

Mew is a Legendary support spirit. It grants a bonus to all Special attacks used by the fighter. Meanwhile, Galeem and Dharkon are unlocked upon reaching the True Ending, and do not require a 100% completion in challenges. Tabuu can be unlocked either via the Spirit Board or the World of Light campaign. Master Hand is exclusively unlocked within the World of Light campaign, but is merely an Advanced rank Primary spirit.
11. In some challenges, a player may be confronted with an opponent wielding intimidating Offenses. A player may also be met with a challenge which calls upon the player to survive for a certain amount of time, as well. In either of these cases, bringing a spirit with high Defense would likely be a good idea. Which spirit of the following has the highest Defense in the game?

Answer: Guile

Guile's stellar 7475 Defense is vastly superior to any other Defense in the game, and it's not even close. The next closest sources of competition are a myriad of spirits which hover around the 62-6300 range. However, Guile's downfall is a pretty lackluster 2900 Offense, which is insufficient for most time-based matchups or instances where a player is quickly trying to defeat a spirit. Guile does, however, grant bonuses to Foot based attacks and have two support spirit slots, which gives some leeway to add some Offensive support, if a player so desired. Additionally, buffing up his already amazing defenses is an option as well.
12. While the spirit with the highest Offense and Defense can be good, neither have advantage against Shield type spirits, which can be problematic. If a player wanted an Offense or Defense-heavy, respectively, Grab type spirit, where should they turn to?

Answer: Marx (True Form) and Mega Diancie

Marx (True Form) has the highest Offense stat out of any Grab type spirits, at a little bit over 6300. Meanwhile, Mega Diancie just about replicates that in its own Defense stat, which is unsurprisingly the highest out of any Grab type spirit. Mega Diancie also grants its user a Franklin badge at the beginning of the fight, which can briefly aid against projectile-heavy characters.
13. Fighter spirits can either be purchased via the Shop or unlocked in Classic mode. What do they do?

Answer: Nothing

These spirits are more or less collectable trophies with no actual meaningful benefit. They can be bought for 300 coins in the Shop.
14. In the context of fighting, what does "Only certain Pokémon appear out of Poke Balls" mean?

Answer: Only one individual Pokémon will appear from the Poké Ball item

If you are fighting a spirit of a Pokémon which can appear from a Poke Ball, this Pokémon and this Pokémon only will end up appearing from Poke Balls. Most of the time, your enemy will begin the game having already picked up a Poke Ball, which they will immediately down throw and release the Pokémon in question.
15. While they are predictably rare, Legendary spirits, Primary and support alike, can be found on the shelves of one of the five Master spirits which have shops. How much will they cost (assume that they are not being discounted, as they would be on Sunday)?

Answer: 10,000 Spirit Points

This is an excellent way to snap up a Legendary spirit to aid you in your World of Light campaign or Spirit Board-hunting endeavors. If it is Sunday, these Legendaries can be anywhere from 10-50% off, making the pay off even more worth it!
