Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which character would use one of these in combat?

Answer: Link

Link-- any version of Link-- would use the Boomerang in battle; he's actually had one since the early "Smash" days as a ranged alternative to the Fairy Bow. The Boomerang is actually useful as a utility technique as well since it can pull enemies and items closer, retrieving them for Link's use if used properly. Link, of course, comes from the "Legend of Zelda" series. Across the series you can play as Link, Toon Link, and Young Link.
2. Many characters in the game may don the depicted item, but which of these doesn't?

Answer: Ike

Ike, appearing in the "Fire Emblem", may find that hat a bit too anachronistic since the "Fire Emblem" series appears to be in a medieval fantasy world unlike the modern stylings of Ness' "Earthbound", the "Pokémon" series, and...well...the too-hip jungles of the "Donkey Kong" series (I mean, come on...they have bongo parties). Ike makes his first appearance in the "Super Smash Bros." series in "Brawl" for the Wii, replacing Roy, who disappeared after "Melee".
3. Who hurts themselves when they use the move depicted?

Answer: Pichu

Pichu is a unique character in that while he's great for beginner players as an agile, small, light character, he also has a tendency to go a bit overboard, hurting himself when he uses any of his lightning-based attacks (including his main lightning ability).

While he's speedier than Pikachu, his equivalent character, the damage is a big no-go for most players, making him one of the least used in competitive play. He only appeared in "Super Smash Bros. Melee".
4. Pulling these out of the ground would be no problem for which character, whose Down-B move does exactly that?

Answer: Peach

Peach has an arsenal of items at her disposal, most of which come from her early appearances on the front lines of different "Mario" games (like "Super Mario Bros. 2") though some of which she used in battle in "Super Mario RPG" (like the frying pan).

The turnip, her Down-B, allows her to pull a randomly generated turnip from the ground and, depending on its appearance, it may do more damage, cause knockback, or explode. Certainly the most dangerous vegetable.
5. Whose main mode of transportation, at least in the "Smash Bros." series, would involve the depicted vehicle?

Answer: Wario

Wario, while being a major face in the Nintendo library for many years as a rival to Mario, never appeared as a playable fighter in the series until "Super Smash Bros. Brawl", at which point his mini-game collections in "WarioWare" started to gain a bit of traction on the Wii. Wario plays up his distasteful qualities in battle, sometimes using flatulence to move around, but also being able to pull a motorcycle out of nowhere and ride it around the stage to damage enemies.
6. Granted...wrong colour...but this properly depicts the species of which character in the roster (starting with "Brawl")?

Answer: Sonic

Sonic is, of course, the famous Sonic the Hedgehog of Sega platformers; he made his first appearance in the series, despite being a third-party character, in "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" alongside "Metal Gear's" Snake, who originally appeared on the NES in early "Metal Gear" games.

The inclusion of third-party characters turned out to be a popular decision as others like Pac-Man, Cloud (of "Final Fantasy VII"), and Bayonetta made their way to the series for the fourth game on Wii U and 3DS.
7. Which character is not going to be using this washroom?

Answer: Marth

Some characters prove to be a bit more confusing than others in the gender side of things, but that's due in no part to "Super Smash Bros.". Samus was revealed to be a female protagonist in early "Metroid" games, much to the surprise of the highly-male player base at the time while many non-gamers believe "The Legend of Zelda's" main character to be named Zelda when, really, Zelda is the Princess of Hyrule and Link is the playable character. Marth is the male option; he's a main character in the "Fire Emblem" series and he first appeared in "Melee".
8. Staying in control is important. Which character would use one of these items to make sure everyone stays in order?

Answer: Olimar

Olimar brings his whistle in from "Pikmin". His neutral B skill, the whistle brings Olimar's forces-- the Pikmin-- back around him, much like it does in his original game. In fact, the whistle became incorporated into his costume in "Wii U/3DS". The whistle, in addition to calling Pikmin to the player, can also organize them by colour which, if you're crafty enough, can be supremely beneficial since each Pikmin can have different abilities. Purple Pikmin, for instance, are heavier than their counterparts and they'll hurt more when thrown.
9. What 'cloned' character who uses the depicted items as weapons debuted in "Super Smash Bros. Melee"?

Answer: Dr. Mario

He's not a pusher...I promise. Dr. Mario appeared in the series for the first time in "Melee" as a Mario clone, he disappeared for "Brawl" (though was intended to return) and then came back again on the Wii U. Instead of Mario's typical fireball attack, Dr. Mario uses his colourful pills, firing them at foes instead. Most of his existing moveset carries over, much like Link with Toon Link and/or Young Link).
10. This would be a typical weapon for which of these four characters?

Answer: Roy

Yup-- Roy is the only one of these to use a sword in combat since DK and Captain Falcon both tend to fight hand-to-hand and Pit uses Palutena's Bow to battle. Roy, like Marth and Ike (also from "Fire Emblem") relies instead on swift actions and blades to take down enemies.

While Marth is typically swifter in their debut game, "Melee", Roy's attacks are a bit less refined, instead incorporating fire at points. Like Dr. Mario, Roy was anticipated to return for "Brawl", but instead came back for Wii U/3DS.
