1981 was the last year that Pontiac assembled their 301-cid V-8 engine. There was a photo displayed to the public that which showed a 1967 Firebird and a 1981 Firebird together as the first and last V-8's that Pontiac would assemble.
2. How many Trans Ams were built in 1981?

Answer: 33,493

Pontiac built "20,541 base Firebird models, 10,938 Esprit models, 5,927 Formula models and 33,493 Trans Am models".
3. What movie came out in the summer of 1980 to try and boost the sales of the Pontiac Firebird?

Answer: Smokey and the Bandit II

This sequel movie created a release of a Trans Am Bandit model that offered quite a few aftermarket upgrades. The price of this model would start at $30,000.

Pontiac offered a "231-cid two-barrel Buick V-6 which was standard on the base Firebird and Esprit. A 265-cid two-barrel Pontiac V-8 engine was standard on the Formula. The Pontiac 301 V-8 and the Pontiac 4.9 Turbo were found on the Formula Turbo and Trans Am. A Chevrolet 305 V-8 was added as a delete option on the Trans Am" as well.
