Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does the phrase "Ne grimpe pas dans les rideaux" mean - not its direct translation?

Answer: 'Relax, don't freak out!'

When you translate it word by word, it says 'Don't climb in the curtains'. However, the expression is used to tell someone not to freak-out. If you have an argument with someone and this person starts to be under stress, you can use this expression. You can also say 'Capote pas!' or 'Mange pas tes bas tu vas chier de la laine' (don't eat your socks you will poop wool).

However, the last one is not really polite and is more used by teens.
2. What does "Je me suis mis les pieds dans les plats" mean? Not its direct translation, just its meaning.

Answer: I did something I shouldn't have

Another expression with the word 'plat' is 'Il en fait tout un plat' who means 'He made a great fuss about it'.
3. What is the meaning (not the direct translation) of the phrase "On n'est pas sorti du bois"?

Answer: 'We're in a mess'

4. What is the meaning (not the direct translation) of the phrase "On s'appelle et on dejeune"?

Answer: 'Talk to you later!'

The literal translation is "we'll call and have lunch".
5. What is the meaning (not the direct translation) of the phrase "Tu es vraiment poisson"?

Answer: 'You are really gullible!'

It means 'You're really gullible'. In French, April fool is 'Poisson d'Avril'. On April 1st, we play tricks and we stick paper fishes on the backs of people when they don't know.
