1. Until 2016, you needed to get off at this District Line stop to find the home of "The Hammers".

Answer: Upton Park

"The Hammers" is the nickname of West Ham United FC. Between 1904-2016, their home ground was at Upton Park (although its official name was the "Boleyn Ground" as it was situated in Boleyn Road). However, in 2016 the team moved to the 2012 Olympic Stadium, which was renamed the London Stadium.

West Ham United FC are also known as "The Irons" which originates from their early history as Thames Ironworks FC (1895-1900).
2. The residence of the Lord Mayor of London is close to this District Line stop.

Answer: Mansion House

Mansion House is one of only two stops on the tube network of London which contains all the vowels - A, E, I, O and U. The other one is South Ealing.

Answer: Paddington

"Paddington" was the little bear from Darkest Peru created by Michael Bond. Paddington the station was one of the original Tube Stations from 1863. The first section of the Underground ran from Paddington to Farringdon.

The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament runs from the last week of June to the first week of July. Trains to Southfields run every 5-8 minutes from Earl's Court station." Shuttle buses also run to the ground from Southfields station.

Victoria is the busiest station on the District Line and was one of the original stations when the line opened in 1868. At that time, the District Line ran from South Kensington to Westminster.

Temple Station is named after Temple Church which is nearby and was built by the Knight's Templars in the 12th Century.

All District Line trains run through Earl's Court which is the control centre for the line.

Barons Court tube Station is one of many Underground stations that is listed due to its architectural interest.

Confusingly, the official names are "Earl's Court" (with an apostrophe) and "Barons Court" (no apostrophe). Generously, I've allowed any option, with or without!

Answer: Sloane Square

Sloane Square is at the start of the King's Road, which has many beautiful shops.

The station was once named Walham Green, but the name was changed to Fulham Broadway in 1952.

Answer: Whitechapel

The murders of Polly Nicholls, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes and Mary Kelly all took place within walking distance of Whitechapel. Other stations nearby are also Aldgate and Liverpool Street.
