Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the English translation for the Spanish word "patatas fritas"?

Answer: Chips/French fries

If you know that potatoes are patatas then you should get this easily.

Answer: Milk

Coffee is "cafe" and tea is "te". They are easy to remember. If you have milk in your coffee that is "cafe con leche" as "con" means with.
3. "Uvas" are Spanish for what fruit?

Answer: Grapes

Remember "uvas" means grapes not a grape. One grape would be "uva".
4. What is the English translation of the Spanish word "zumo de naranja"?

Answer: Orange juice

"Naranja" is orange and "zumo" is juice so if you wanted to say apple juice it would be "zumo de manzana".
5. "Salchichas" are Spanish for what food beginning with "s"?

Answer: Sausages

It is quite easy to fall into the "Spanish word is similar to the English word" trap and although "salchichas" is similar to sausages, all the other answers are nowhere near similar to the Spanish translation. Sandwiches are "bocadillos", strawberries are "fresas" and sweets are "caramelos".
6. What does the Spanish word "helado" mean?

Answer: Ice cream

The other answers' translations start with a "h" sound. Hamburger is "hamburgesa", eggs are "huevos" and ham is "jamon" but you pronounce it "hamon" as in Spanish, the "j" is pronounced "h".
7. "Platano" is Spanish for what fruit?

Answer: Banana

Remember to make a word plural you often add "s" at the end so platano will become platanos but this isn't always the case.
8. "Frambuesas" is Spanish for which of these foods?

Answer: Raspberries

Tomato is "tomate", carrots are "zanahoria" (pronounced thanareea as "z" is pronounced "th". Lettuce is "lechuga"
9. What does the Spanish word "melocoton" mean in English?

Answer: Peach

Mushrooms are "champinones", lemon is simply "limon", and cauliflower is "coliflor".

Fish is "pescado" and hot chocolate is "chocolate caliente". Garlic bread is "pan de ajo" with "pan" as bread.
