The Roseman Bridge is the site where an escapee from the Roseman jail was surrounded by posses in 1892. The man somehow pushed his way up through the top of the bridge, and the men who witnessed this claimed, that for a man to do that he must be innocent. This illustrious bridge was renovated in 1992 at a cost of {$152,515.}

Built in 1870, the Imes Covered Bridge is the oldest of all the covered bridges. In 1887 it was moved to Clinton Creek, southwest of Hanley. It was again moved 1977 to its present site over a natural ravine, just east of St. Charles. The Imes Covered Bridge was renovated in 1997 for a cost of {$31,807.} The Hogback Covered Bridge was built in 1884 by Benton Jones.

The Hogback measures in at 97 feet in length and still remains in its orginal location. This bridge was renovated in 1992 at a cost of {$118,810.} Madison County orginally had 19 covered bridges, and all that remain are six.

The bridges are listed in the National Historic Register. The bridges were ordered covered by the County Board Of Supervisors in order to perserve the flooring timbers of these magnificent bridges.

The bridges were named for the resident which lived closest to the them. Every year in Madison County there is a 'Covered Bridge' Festival. The festival is held every year on the second weekend in October. Vistors to Madison County during this festival will find: music, a wide selection of food, antique vehicle parades, tours of the covered bridges, and entertainment.
