Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What Métro Line would you take to go directly from the Gare Nord to Bastille?

Answer: The Line 5 (Place d'Italie)

You can always take the RER D to the Gare de Lyon, and transfer to the Number 1, but you have to do a lot of walking at the Gare de Lyon!
2. If you wanted to visit the Eiffel Tower, which of the following stations would you NOT stop at?

Answer: Hôtel de Ville (line 1)

The Line 6 goes above ground sometimes and offers some beautiful views of the city. Bir Hakeim is a great station to exit if you'd like to walk along the river. If you choose to stop off at École Militaire (line 8), though, you can approach the Eiffel Tower slowly while walking through Champ de Mars.
3. Which of the following stations is NOT on the line 2?

Answer: Miromesnil

On the Line 2 you can visit the Arc de Triomphe, Pigalle and the Moulin Rouge. And it is also useful for getting to Charles de Gaulle airport: just get off at La Chapelle, and you can walk through an underground tunnel to get to the Line B at the Gare Nord. But be sure to take the RER B 41-43, and NOT the 42-44, or you'll end up going in the wrong direction.
4. Which of the following does NOT connect with Métro Opéra ?

Answer: Line 12 (Aubervilliers/ Mairie d'Issy)

The Line 12 has at least ten stops where we can transfer to another train, but Opéra isn't one of the them. It has a lot of stops, so skip this train if you're in a hurry.
5. If someone had to go from the Gare Nord (on the Line 4) to La Motte-Picquet Grenelle (a popular station on the Line 6), what would be the advantage of transferring at Raspail rather than Montparnasse, even though doing so would add two more stations to the trip?

Answer: At Raspail, there is no walking to do and no stairs to climb, in order to transfer, so, if you're exhausted, this is a comfort.

If you're on the Number 4, heading through town towards Port D'Orleans, and you transfer at Montparnasse, you will end up walking a long time, and up and down flights of stairs. At Raspail, however, you can get out of the Line 4 and walk directly onto the Line 6 going toward Charles de Gaulle Etoile. No stairs, nothing. This is helpful if you have a lot of luggage.
6. What Métro line features such stations as Jasmin, Ranelagh, and Buzenval?

Answer: Line 9 (Mairie de Montreuil/ Pont de Sèvres)

There are 300 Métro stations in Paris. So this is just a reminder of how many we can forget about.
7. If you leave Les Halles Métro Station from the Porte de Jour, what will you NOT see?

Answer: The Claude François museum

Strangely there is this giant head right next to Saint Eustache. It's very strange. (Claude François, by the way, was a popular French singer who was electrocuted and died because he tried to change a light bulb while standing in the bathtub. I don't yet know if there is a museum dedicated to him, but he has a pretty big following!)
8. What line doesn't come to Saint Michel?

Answer: Line 12 (Porte de La Chapelle/ Mairie d'Issy)

Also the Line 10 will take you to Cluny La Sorbonne which is a great station to exit and enjoy the walk up Saint Michel Boulevard.
9. What is the only Métro station that begins with a "W"?

Answer: Wagram

This Métro station was named after an Austrian town, not far from Vienna, where Napolean defeated Archduke Charles of Austria in 1809.
10. What Métro station has you climbing a winding staircase of 75 steps if you are too impatient to wait for the crate elevator?

Answer: Lamarck - Caulaincourt (Line 12)

No matter how long it takes, go ahead and wait for that elevator. Going down may not be a problem, but going up can be a killer. Especially since as soon as you hit the streets in that area, there's a lot of hills and staircases.
