Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Travelling in Third Class, how many of the six Goodwin children survived?

Answer: None

In the days following the sinking, several cable ships were sent out to begin the sad task of recovering the victims' bodies. Among the first to be found was a small fair-haired boy. When no relatives came forward to claim the child, he was buried in Fairview Lawn Cemetery and became known as "Titanic's Unknown Child". Ninety-five years later, with the help of DNA testing (which, of course, was unavailable in 1912), he was finally identified as one-year-old Sidney Leslie Goodwin.

The Goodwin Family: Frederick (42), his wife, Augusta (43) and their six children, Lillian (16), Charles (14), William (11), Jessie (10), Harold (9) and baby Sidney had boarded Titanic as Third Class passengers in Southampton, England. Their destination: Niagara Falls, New York, USA. The entire family perished. Only Sidney's body was recovered. The bodied of his parents and siblings, if recovered, were never identified.
2. Twelve-year-old Anthony Sage travelled on Titanic in Third Class with his parents and siblings. How many brothers and sisters did he have in total?

Answer: Eight

To balance the large number of Scandinavian families in Third Class, 183 British people also travelled Third Class. Among them was the Sage Family: John, his wife, Annie (both 44), and their nine children, Stella (20), George (19), Douglas (18), Frederick (16), Dorothy (14), Anthony (12), Elizabeth (10), Constance (7) and Thomas (4). They boarded in Southampton, England.

The Sage Family had a lot to look forward to when they reached their destination, Jacksonville, Florida, USA. John had put a deposit on a farm where the family would grow and sell pecan nuts and George was getting married. Sadly, they would never enjoy their new lives in America. The entire family perished. Only Anthony's body was recovered. He was buried at sea on April 22nd, 1912. The bodies of his parents and siblings, if recovered, were never identified.
3. Travelling in First Class, did six-year-old Robert Spedden survive?

Answer: Yes

Six-year-old Robert Spedden boarded Titanic as a First Class passenger in Cherbourg, France, with his parents, Frederic (45) and Margaretta (39). They were returning home to Tuxedo Park, New York, USA, after holidaying in Europe. Travelling with them was Mrs Spedden's maid, Helen Wilson (31), and Robert's nanny, Elizabeth Burns (41).

The family, along with Miss Burns and Miss Wilson, were rescued in Lifeboat Three. A year later, Mrs Spedden wrote and illustrated a book, which she gave her son for Christmas. It told the story of the sinking through the eyes of Robert's toy polar bear.

Robert died on August 8th, 1915, after being hit by a car near his family's summer camp.
4. Which members of his family did eight-year-old John Davies travel with?

John, his mother and Miss Sincock were rescued in Lifeboat Fourteen. Joseph perished. His body was eventually recovered by the cable-ship Mackay-Bennett and he was buried at sea on April 23rd, 1912.
