Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I must get some soap ... oh, what's that one called? Its name has something to do with fruit.

Answer: Pears soap

Pears soap was the invention of Andrew Pears from Cornwall. It was milder than other soaps available in the 19th century and appealed to the upper classes with their pale alabaster complexions. It used to be famously economical. The two main surfaces are concave, so one can squeeze the old bar of Pears soap into the new one. Pears soap was famous for its advertising posters featuring beautiful children.
2. Hmm, I've got turkey for dinner, I need some sage and onion stuffing - what's the name of it?

Answer: Paxo

For many years Paxo was THE accompaniment to turkey in the UK.
3. Oh what's the name of that stuff that people either love or hate?

Answer: Marmite

Marmite is a savoury spread (yeast extract) which goes well with bread or toast. Just recently Marmite's advertising campaign in the UK has centred around people either loving it or hating it. I'm in the love camp.

Frank Muir sang the song "Everyone's a Fruit and Nut Case" to the tune of "The Nutcracker". It was a great hit in the 1970s.

9. Who is it that makes that famous Worcestershire Sauce?

Answer: Lea and Perrins

Worcestershire sauce is by far my favourite thing on this list. It's great in soup, in baked beans, in Bolognese sauce or chilli and lovely on cheese on toast.
