I haven't been able to find anything that confirms that Copenhagen's originator in 1822, George Weyman, was Danish - but it seems to be the case that the 'snus' tradition of which Copenhagen is part came to the USA largely from Nordic countries. It seems more than likely then that the name of this dip tobacco is related to the Danish capital.
