Answer: Adoption agency evaluator
After her pregnancy scare at the end of the second season, Liz realized that she really wanted to become a mother, so she looked into the possibility of adoption. "Is it so wrong that I just want to have one of these to grow up and resent me?" she asked Pete. Megan Mullally, best known for playing the kooky Karen Walker on "Will and Grace", made an appearance as Bev, the adoption agency evaluator who was giving Liz the once-over in this episode. When Bev was accidentally hit in the head and couldn't remember the bad first impression from her visit to the studio, Liz thought that she was given the chance to have a "do-over", and went to painful lengths to duplicate Bev's evaluation of her workplace and colleagues, this time with everyone trying their best to make Liz look good of course. The plan seemed to work at first, until it became clear that Bev couldn't retain any long-term memories, so Liz gave up the game and sent Bev to the hospital.

Answer: Jack's mother
Elaine Stritch portrayed Colleen Donaghy, the caustic, overbearing mother to Alec Baldwin's Jack Donaghy. Jack got so riled up by his mother during her visit that he suffered a massive heart-attack. "Conflict is great acting material," said Elaine about her relationship with her television son. "You show me two people that are getting along and having a cup of tea, I don't want to watch that on television." Elaine Stritch is best known for originating the role of Joanne in "Company" on Broadway, and for her one-woman show "Elaine Stritch: At Liberty".

Answer: Oprah Winfrey
In "Believe in the Stars", Liz was called up for jury duty and had to fly back to Chicago, so Jack gave her a sedative to take on the flight. "Nobody flies without medication anymore," advised Jack. "Why shouldn't you enjoy the same luxuries as a dog?" Liz was under the influence of something called "comanapracil" (whose side effects included dizziness, sexual nightmares and sleep crime) when she thought she was sitting next to Oprah Winfrey on the plane. "Oprah" turned out to be Pam, a 12-year-old middle school student whose mother was a flight attendant. Liz's experience wasn't unique - Jack admitted that he had in-flight medication to thank for meeting M. Night Shyamalan, who turned out to be Jonathan, his personal assistant.

Answer: Jennifer Aniston
In "The One with the Cast of Night Court" (the title of this episode was a play on the titles for all the "Friends" episodes), Jennifer Aniston made a guest appearance as Claire Harper, Liz's emotionally unstable friend who developed an unhealthy obsession with Jack. "She's like a human Macarena," warned Liz. "Something everyone did at parties in 1996." Tragically, Jack found himself irresistibly drawn to Claire, even after she crashed a fundraiser to sing "Happy Birthday" to Jack and broke into his house to make him a white pizza and a pot roast. The last straw came when Claire stole a gun from a cop and handed it to Jack outside a crowded club, which led to Jack's arrest and appearance in Court. "Lemon, real Night Court is not at all like the TV show," Jack informed Liz. "The hookers are not funny, there's a lot more sickly homeless people and terrified college students."

Answer: Paul Reubens
Prince Gerhardt was portrayed as a grotesque cripple with a lame hand and a body that couldn't produce joint fluid. "Most people in his situation would be angry with his family for the centuries of inbreeding, but not Gerhardt," explained Jack. "He's too busy trying to stave off infection." Jenna crashed the party in the hopes of rubbing shoulders with royalty, but it all ended badly when Gerhardt died from an allergic reaction to champagne. Best known for creating and portraying the Pee-wee Herman character that appeared in movies and television shows during the 1980s, Paul Reubens was the perfect choice to play the disease-addled Prince. His appearance on "30 Rock" was disturbing, short-lived and utterly hilarious.

Answer: Boston
In "Secret Santa", Jack reconnected with his high school crush, Nancy, after the company acquired an up-and-coming social networking website called Youface. All of the GE executives were asked to set up their Youface page, and Jack was "finger-tagged" by Nancy after she found his online profile. Nancy was going to be in New York City that week to pick up her sons from school, and she spent the day with Jack reminiscing over old times. Nancy was scheduled to leave for Boston the next day but her train got cancelled, which she took as a sign that she should take up Jack's offer to meet him for a drink. It turned out that Liz had called in a bomb scare to Penn Station so that Jack would have a little more time to spend with Nancy - the gesture was her zero-dollar Christmas present to Jack. When Nancy and her husband split up later in the season, Jack began a relationship with her, even though he had started seeing someone else in the meantime.
Julianne Moore (the star of the films "The End of the Affair", "The Hours" and "Far From Heaven") portrayed Nancy Donovan with a heavy Boston accent, and drew criticism from viewers who felt that her accent was exaggerated and unrealistic. Moore's accent was defended by the show's producers, and the show even poked fun at the whole issue in the season finale. In the scene where Nancy first met Avery Jessup, her rival for Jack's affections, it was revealed that Avery used to speak with a heavy Maryland accent. Nancy's reaction to Avery's old accent was a classic example of the kind of meta-humor that the show is famous for. "Ugh," she declared. "That accent's idiotic."

Answer: Steve Martin
When Liz accompanied Jack to the home of Gavin Volure in the episode of the same name, she never expected to be swept off her feet by the charming industrialist, played by Steve Martin. It later transpired that he was only pretending to have agoraphobia so that people wouldn't find out that he was actually under house arrest for tax fraud, embezzlement and racketeering. The U.S. Government owned the grand mansion he was living in, which he shared with three other white-collar criminals. Gavin also tricked Jack into investing in a new "business venture", which turned out to be a ruse to raise money so that he could purchase disguises for his escape. He tried to make his getaway when Liz visited him at home, but everything didn't go according to plan. "I thought Derek was upstairs," Gavin cried as he was tackled to the ground by a U.S. Marshal. "I miscounted the men, Liz! I miscounted the men!"
From Quiz: The Guest Stars of "30 Rock", Season 3
Answer: Sean Hayes
Sean Hayes is best known for his role as the flamboyant Jack McFarland in "Will and Grace", but on "30 Rock" he played a character that was the polar opposite of Jack. Jesse Parcell was Kenneth's hillbilly cousin who kept talking about wolves, and was so star truck with Tracy that he held him against his will when he wanted to return to New York. The casting of Sean Hayes was oddly fitting, because Jack McBrayer (who plays Kenneth) has been mistaken for Sean in the past by autograph hounds, who refused to believe that he wasn't the "Will and Grace" star. "I didn't want to get him in trouble," said McBrayer, "so I'd sign 'Sean Hayes' and go about my day."

Answer: A Japanese body pillow
Jenna had met James Franco's manager over the holidays, and was asked to enter into an "arranged Hollywood relationship" with the "Spider-Man" and "Pineapple Express" star, in order to dispel "certain unsavory rumors". Jenna was all for it, but Liz needed a little more convincing. "What exactly is Mr. Franco covering up here?" she asked. James Franco himself provided the explanation. "Liz, are you familiar with Japanese 'moe' relationships where socially dysfunctional men develop deep, emotional attachments to body pillows with women painted on them?"
Jenna eventually broke up with James after she realized that she was envious of James' relationship with Kimiko-tan, and wanted something real herself. Even James came to recognize the foolishness of their charade. "What am I doing, Jenna?" he said. "Pretending to be something I'm not. Making myself miserable when I've got happiness waiting for me at home." The episode ended with James taking Kimiko-tan out to a nightclub, where they met Liz, and the three of them ended up spending the night in Liz's apartment.

Answer: Nurse
After Jack hit his mother with his car just before Christmas, he hired Elisa to care for her while she was recuperating at home. "I think you'll find being my mother's nurse a mixed bag," Jack said to Elisa. "When she's in a foul mood it can be horribly unpleasant, but at other times, she is asleep." The two started dating, and had to work at overcoming the various obstacles that stood between them. When Elisa's hectic work schedule threatened to keep them apart, Jack resorted to bringing her vegetative patient along with them on their dates. Jack also had to win the approval of Elisa's grandmother, who disliked him because of his uncanny resemblance to the villain in "Los Amantes Clandestinos", her favorite soap opera.

Answer: Jerry Seinfeld
In the first episode of season two, Jack had his tech guys digitally capture Jerry Seinfeld from the hundreds of hours of footage of "Seinfeld" owned by NBC so that he could be inserted into the current crop of programs airing on the network. Jack coined the process "Seinfeldvision", which saw Jerry Seinfeld inserted into episodes of "Law and Order", "Heroes", "Deal or No Deal" and the fictional reality show "MILF Island" without his consent. Ironically, Jerry's appearance on "30 Rock" occurred a few weeks before the release of the animated film "Bee Movie", which Jerry had starred in and co-written, and a few seconds of the trailer for that movie could be seen on Jack's laptop during the episode.

Answer: Valentine's Day
Liz couldn't make it on Friday because of her "stupid show", so she pushed for Saturday without realizing that it was Valentine's Day. Drew figured that she didn't have a good grasp on what month it was because of her Jack-o'-lantern rotting in the hallway. "Well it's just gotten so small that I kinda want to see if it disappears," Liz explained. When Liz sought counsel from Jack for her blunder, he advised her to salvage the situation by taking it slow. "Instead of going to a restaurant where it'll be nothing but people in love and rings hidden in pastries, cook him a nice meal at home." Unfortunately, their first date was a bit of a disaster - Liz's breast fell out of her blouse during dinner, and she inadvertently gave Drew a view of her sitting on the toilet. Their date was also interrupted when Drew's ex-wife dumped their daughter on him, and when he was called away to the hospital after his dying "mother" took a turn for the worse.

For his appearances in the show's second season, Arnett was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor for a Comedy Series, as were Steve Buscemi and Rip Torn, but they all lost to Tim Conway, who won the award for playing Bucky Bright, the former child star who regaled Kenneth with hilariously inappropriate stories about the good old days in the episode "Subway Hero".

Answer: He had to go to church
Elisa wanted to go to church for the Feast of the Martyrdom of St. Valentine, but Jack didn't seem very excited at the thought. "Please, Jack," Elisa pleaded. "Don't tell me you're one of those convenient Catholics that only goes to church every Sunday." Jack couldn't wait for the service to be over so he could scoot off to Plunder to enjoy "The Lover's Delight" - a dessert consisting of Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream in a pool of Cognac, drizzled in the world's most expensive chocolate, Amedei Porcelana, covered with shaved white, black and clear truffles, and topped with edible 25-carat gold leaf. His impatience led to a hilarious attempt at multi-tasking during the Lord's Prayer: "Our Jonathan who art at the office. Hallowed be my reservation. If you are able, hold my table at Plunder as we will not be there by seven. Have them delay our heavenly dessert, and forgive us our lateness, as we forgive those who cause lateness against us."
