Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Alec
Answer: Brother
Alec is the oldest brother and the patriarch of the clan. After having supporting roles in movies like "Beetlejuice" (1988) and "Working Girl" (1988), he went on to be nominated for a host of awards.
Baldwin has won three Primetime Emmy Awards - two for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for "30 Rock" (2006-2013) and one for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Donald Trump on "Saturday Night Live", a role he played on the program from 2016-2020. He has also won three Golden Globes and eight Screen Actors Guild Awards for his role on "30 Rock".
Alec is deeply involved in several charitable organizations, including his long time support for breast cancer research through The Baldwin Fund. The Hilaria & Alec Baldwin Foundation focuses on award grants that go to a host of different causes in New York City and Long Island.
2. Stephen
Answer: Brother
Stephen is the youngest Baldwin brother. He began his acting debut in "The Beast" (1988) and "Homeboy" (1988). He may be best known for his television role in "The Young Riders", where he starred as William F. Cody from 1989-1992. In 1995 Stephen won the National Board of Review Best Acting by an Ensemble for "The Usual Suspects" (1995). Like his brother Daniel, Stephen has made appearances on reality television programs, such as "The Celebrity Apprentice" (2009) and "Celebrity Big Brother" (2010).
In 2006 Baldwin released a book called "The Unusual Suspect" which chronicled his personal life and told about how he became a born-again Evangelical after the 9/11/2001 attacks in the United States. He has since formed a non-profit organization, "Now More Than Ever" (2009) to help U.S. service people around the world.
3. William
Answer: Brother
After appearing as a fashion model for Calvin Klein, William began his acting career with a television movie called "The Preppie Murder" (1989). The next year he appeared with his brothers Daniel and Stephen on "Born on the Fourth of July" (1990). Since then he has appeared in numerous movie and television roles.
Probably the role that gained him the most recognition was his role in "Sliver" (1993) with Sharon Stone. He was given an MTV Movie Award for Most Desirable Male, which was offset with a nomination for a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actor for the same movie.
Most recently Baldwin has narrated a documentary called "Americans With No Address" (2024), which discusses the causes of homelessness in the United States.
4. Daniel
Answer: Brother
Daniel began his acting career in the movies with roles in "Born on the Fourth of July" (1989) and "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man" (1991). It appears, however, that his success is more centered around roles in television. He played Beau Felton in "Homicide: Life on the Street" (1993-1995) and Moe Kitchener in "Cold Case" (2009-2010).
Daniel has also been involved with several reality television programs. He was the recurring host on "truTVPresent: World's Dumbest..." (2008-2012), and has appeared on "Celebrity Wife Swap" (2014) and "Celebrity Big Brother 16" (2016).
5. Chynna
Answer: Wife or Ex
Chynna Phillips, the daughter of Michele and John of The Mamas & the Papas, married William Baldwin in 1995. She is best known for being a member of the group Wilson Phillips, with Carne and Wendy Wilson, the daughters of Beach Boy Brian Wilson. In 1996 their first album sold 10 million copies and produced five hit singles. While Wilson Phillips has never duplicated that success, they do continue to tour together, and Chynna has pursued other musical endeavors as well.
William and Chynna have two daughters and a son together.
6. Kim
Answer: Wife or Ex
Kim Basinger, a model and actress, married Alec Baldwin in 1993, after starring with him in "The Marrying Man" (1990). The couple's remake of "The Getaway" (1994) was not considered a box office success, and Alec called it "a bomb". Basinger earned a Razzie nomination, as well as a nomination for a Stinkers Bad Movie for that movie, but didn't "win" either. She did win an Academy Award for her role in "L.A. Confidential" (1997).
Basinger is also known as an ardent animal rights activist, and has played a role in several PETA anti-fur campaigns.
7. Kennya
Answer: Wife or Ex
Kennya Deodato married Stephen Baldwin in 1990; they met on a bus ride in New York City in 1987 when they were both nineteen years old. Together they have two daughters who are both models. Born in Brazil, Kennya is a graphic designer who moved to the United States to study at the Parsons School of Design. Her father, Eumir Deodato, is a Grammy Award winning musician.
In spite of being a member of a very public family, Kennya seems to maintain a very low public profile. Her daughter Hailey has said that her parents raised her and her sister away from Hollywood, and when she was growing up that they were just hanging out at home.
8. Hilaria
Answer: Wife or Ex
Hilaria Hayward-Thomas married Alec in 2012, and is his second wife, a yoga instructor, and a mother. She has written fitness books, and co-founded a yoga studio called "Yoga Vida" in 2009.
After marrying Alec Hilaria became a lifestyle reporter for the show "Extra", for which she shared a Daytime Emmy Award with other contributors. She then began launching parenting podcasts. Hilaria changed her name from Hillary to indicate a Spanish connection to her ancestry, however, while her parents moved to Spain, she has only visited the country. Some people have accused her of being an identify hoaxer, which was presumably done in order to get positive Hispanic press.
9. Hailey
Answer: Other
Hailey Rhode Bieber is the daughter of Stephen and is married to music star Justin Bieber. She is a model who has worked for Guess, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger, and has appeared on the cover of "Jalouse" magazine, "Marie Claire", American "Vogue", and numerous others. The name Rhode is a nod toward Haley's mother, who shares the same middle name, and is also the name of her skincare brand that was launched in June 2022.
Hailey and Justin announced the birth of their son in August 2024.
10. Ireland
Answer: Other
Ireland is the daughter of Alec and his first wife. She is a model, and has worked for True Religion Jeans and Guess, and appeared on the cover of magazines, such as "Elle" Bulgaria. Like her mother, she is also an animal activist; in 2018 she posed nude for a PETA anti-fur campaign.
Interestingly, Ireland appeared in "Grudge Match" (2013) with her mother, playing a younger version of her mother's character. In May 2023 she announced the birth of a daughter, her father's first grandchild.
11. Carol
Answer: Other
Carol (1929-2022) became the modern family patriarch following the death of her husband, Alexander in 1983. She was the mother of four sons and two daughters. Together with her son, Alec, she established the Carol M. Baldwin Cancer Research Fund in 1996. The Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook, New York, also has a wing, the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Care Center, which was dedicated in her honor. Alec funded his mother's charities by donating money he earned as a brand's spokesperson.
Interestingly, Carol's family was also one of the first arrivals in North America. Through her father, Daniel Martineau, Carol traced her lineage to William Bradford, who served as Governor of Plymouth Colony for a time.
12. John
Answer: Other
I found John Howland (c.1593-1673) to be the most interesting Baldwin Family member - and you've probably never heard of him! John not only came to American on the Mayflower, but he was also the secretary to John Carver, who was Plymouth's first governor. Howland was a signer of the Mayflower Compact, the first instance of self-government in what would eventually become the United States.
Although he traveled on the Mayflower as an indentured servant, it is believed that John inherited at least part of Carver's estate when he died. His marriage to Elizabeth Tilley produced ten children. He has a long list of descendants, including President George H.W. Bush, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Christopher Lloyd. The Baldwins are related to Howland through their father, Alexander Baldwin, Jr., and are the thirteenth generation of their family to be born in North America.
