Broadcast on BBC Radio's 'The Kitchen Front', Marguerite Patten's practical advice on how to make nutritious yet tasty recipes from the severely limited rations available during and after the war inspired the nation and earned her many fans. She was also one of the first television chefs, and co-presented the BBC television programme 'Cookery Lesson' with Philip Harben in 1950.

Preferring to be known as a home economist rather than a 'celebrity chef', Marguerite Patten has written 170 cook books and has had a huge influence on British cooking over the years. Born in 1915, she was still contributing to radio and television in 2012, aged 97. She has been honoured with the OBE in 1991 and again in 2010 with the CBE, and also won the Woman of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.

Known for her somewhat aggressive presentation style, Fanny Cradock presented her programmes dressed in an array of ball gowns, with her husband Major Johnny Cradock at her side. Her television broadcasts spanned twenty years, making her one of the most successful celebrity chefs, but the BBC abruptly terminated her contract when she undermined the winner of a cookery competition during her big moment, which led to a public outcry, and she was never employed by the BBC again.

Born Phyllis Nan Sortain Pechey in 1909, Fanny Cradock had four husbands, but as her second husband, a devout Catholic, had refused to grant her a divorce it was later alleged that she had married two, including Johnny Cradock, bigamously. She died in 1994.

Delia Smith first appeared on our TV screens in the BBC regional programme 'Look East', and her first series 'Family Fare', broadcast from 1973, brought her cookery skills to a wider audience across the country. Her many books have sold over 20 million copies, and her long-running series, 'Delia's How to Cook', was one of the most-watched cookery series ever. Some of the foodstuffs and utensils she has used in her shows have been so popular they have quickly sold out, giving rise to the phrase the 'Delia Effect'.

Delia Smith and her husband Michael Wynn-Jones have had a passionate interest in football (as majority shareholders in Norwich City FC, where they have often attended matches).

Unable to pursue his football career due to injury, Gordon Ramsay embarked on a successful career in cooking. The UK series of 'Hell's Kitchen' featured him teaching ten celebrities how to cook, with one prospective chef being eliminated each day. The winner of the first season was actress Jennifer Ellison. It was the only series of 'Hell's Kitchen' Gordon Ramsay appeared in on UK television before taking the series to American audiences, but after his departure the UK show continued with other chefs. The show is broadcast to most countries worldwide.

Gordon Ramsay opened his first restaurant in London in 1998, and later owned several Michelin-starred restaurants across the world.

Ainsley Harriott had worked as a chef in many top London hotels before branching out into television. As well as his regular slot on 'Good Morning with Anne and Nick' he has hosted 'Can't Cook, Won't Cook' and the very popular 'Ready, Steady Cook'.

Ainsley Harriott was born in London in 1957. He is also the author of several cook books, which have sold in excess of two million copies worldwide.

Heston Blumenthal opened The Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire in 1995. It has regularly been voted amongst the country's - and the world's - best restaurants. In addition to the Fat Duck, he's owned other restaurants in the UK including the award-winning Dinner by Heston Blumenthal in Knightsbridge, London.

Heston Blumenthal is known for his all-round approach to dining, called multi-sensory cooking, where all the senses are involved in the meal. He has written several books and won many prestigious awards in the industry. He was awarded the OBE in 2006.

Answer: The Hairy Bikers

The Hairy Bikers' have presented their programme while travelling on their motorcycles across the world, as well as at home throughout the UK. They have appeared in several TV programmes, the most well-known being 'The Hairy Bikers' Cookbook' and 'The Hairy Bikers' Food Tour of Britain'.

Their 'Best of British' series was interesting because it combined exploring the history and evolution of British cooking with their recipes from around the UK. Another series took them across Europe on their bikes to feature some of the recipes they found in each country.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's cooking very much revolves around self-sufficiency and the use of his own home-grown products as well as other local merchandise. He is a keen advocate of organic produce and also campaigns hard for food-related issues including sustainable fishing and free range poultry. He has written several 'River Cottage' cookbooks to complement the different series. He has further business interests in the culinary world.

The first three series of 'River Cottage' were filmed at what was Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's own home in Dorset. Since moving with his family, the shows have been filmed at a separate location nearby.

Nigella Lawson had a successful career in journalism before turning to writing cook books. Her first was 'How to Eat', which was published in 1998. Her second, the bestselling 'How to Be a Domestic Goddess', which won her the British Book Award's Author of the Year title, came two years later. This coincided with the first series of her television show 'Nigella Bites', which was shown on Channel Four.

Nigella Lawson is the daughter of Nigel Lawson, who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1983-89, during Margaret Thatcher's premiership.

Jamie Oliver had a long-running advertising deal with supermarket giant Sainsbury's from 2000 - 2011. He has written several cookbooks, and was honoured with an MBE in 2003. 'The Naked Chef' was his first television series, which began a three-series run in 1998 and proved an instant hit. He has since made several other series for television, including 'Jamie's Kitchen'. This showed him training fifteen young people with poor employment prospects to become chefs, with the winners being offered jobs in his restaurant, 'Fifteen'. His 'Fifteen' project has been supported by his charitable foundation, and has run similar schemes in the UK and overseas.

Jamie Oliver's 2005 series 'Jamie's School Dinners' did much to increase public awareness of healthy eating issues, and his resultant 'Feed Me Better' campaign led to the government bringing about healthier changes to school meals nationwide.
