Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Why was the August 28, 2003 edition of "Smackdown!" particularly special to Eddie Guerrero, who was the first superstar to appear on the show that night?

Answer: The show took place in his hometown of El Paso, TX

Since this "Smackdown!" took place in Eddie's hometown of El Paso, Texas, he had many of his friends and family there. A camera followed him from the parking lot to the arena as he greeted fans and made his way to the ring. When he got there, he even started sharing some stories about his family and entertaining the crowd with his usual antics.
2. When John Cena came to the ring, what government agency did he threaten to call on Eddie Guerrero?

Answer: Border Patrol

In 2003, John Cena was just starting to make a name for himself in WWE. Under his "Doctor of Thuganomics" gimmick, Cena would insult his opponents with cleverly-crafted rap lines. This night was no different: he started running his mouth like always, and at one point threatened to call the Border Patrol on Guerrero. Of course, this was a highly charged joke meant to incense Guerrero and the audience, given the controversies surrounding immigration in the border state of Texas. Cena then challenged Guerrero to a match for Guerrero's title.
3. Which superstar retained his Cruiserweight Championship by defeating Nunzio on "Smackdown!"?

Answer: Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio was one of WWE's top competitors in the Cruiserweight division. When he was at WCW, he also won that promotion's Cruiserweight title multiple times. Nunzio challenged Mysterio for his title on the August 28, 2003 episode of "Smackdown!", but Rey successfully defended it in a match that lasted just under five minutes.
4. Which superstar, who later wrestled in WWE as Lord Tensai, lost his match against Chris Benoit on "Smackdown!" on August 28, 2003?

Answer: A-Train

A-Train came to the ring accompanied by Sable, an alliance that had been building up since A-Train attacked Stephanie McMahon at "Vengeance" 2003. Benoit had some trouble at the beginning of the match but eventually got the win. Benoit won the match with the "Crippler Crossface," but A-Train appeared to have his feet under the bottom rope.

He made his case to the referee, but Benoit's victory stood. Later, A-Train confronted Benoit backstage, upset about being unable to beat him. From out of nowhere, Rhyno speared Benoit right through a door.

A referee came to his aid and asked him if he was all right.
5. What did John Cena do to Eddie Guerrero's Low Rider that angered "Latino Heat"?

Answer: Stole a tire

Eddie was very angry when he found out someone stole a tire from his car and demanded to know who did it. The wrestlers in the parking lot said they had nothing to do with it. The Full Blooded Italians (F.B.I.) thought it was funny and started laughing. Eddie then started attacking them before the other wrestlers calmed him down. Cena later came down to the ring holding a tire, presumably the missing tire from Eddie's Low Rider. Eddie got even angrier when Cena essentially confirmed his involvement in stealing the tire.
6. What WWE championship was in dispute in the match between Eddie Guerrero and John Cena on the August 28, 2003 edition of "Smackdown!"?

Answer: United States Championship

Eddie Guerrero was the holder of the United States Championship. Cena had made some comments earlier about how Eddie shouldn't be able to hold that title unless he was a citizen (of course, Eddie was indeed a U.S. citizen). Eddie took out his anger on Cena early in the match by going after Cena's head.

Eddie Guerrero held the United States Championship twice in his career: first in WCW when he won a tournament in "Starrcade" 1996, and then in 2003 when he became the first holder of the title after WWE revived it.
7. What was the outcome of the Eddie Guerrero vs John Cena championship match?

Answer: Eddie Guerrero won by disqualification

Eddie Guerrero had the match under control after he hit Cena with a "suplex" and a "Hurricanrana". However, Eddie couldn't win via pinfall because the referee had been knocked out. Cena was then disqualified when he gave Eddie a low blow, but he wasn't done with that. Cena continued beating Guerrero up, made him bleed by hitting him with a chain, and ended by performing his "Attitude Adjustment" onto the tire. Eddie retained his United States Championship, which he would lose to Big Show at "No Mercy" 2003.
8. The main event of "Smackdown!" on August 28, 2003 was a Triple Threat Number One Contender's Match for the WWE Championship. According to Michael Cole, when would the winner of the match get his title shot?

Answer: Next week on "Smackdown!"

The match had Brock Lesnar, the Big Show, and The Undertaker battling it out to see who would get a shot at the ultimate prize. It was a No Disqualification Match, so there would no doubt be a winner in this match regardless of what happened. The match blended some interesting feuds that had been developing for weeks between the participants and the WWE champion.
9. Which Olympic gold medalist joined Michael Cole and Tazz at the announcing table to provide commentary in the main event match of "Smackdown!" on August 28, 2003?

Answer: Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle was the reigning WWE champion at the time. He had been feuding with Brock Lesnar for weeks after the latter was unsuccessful in winning the title at "Vengeance" 2003. During the match, Kurt said that he didn't care who won and was looking forward to defending the title against the winner.

In addition to his successful pro wrestling career, Kurt Angle also had a decorated career in freestyle wrestling. He competed in the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games and won a gold medal for the U.S.
10. Which superstar became the number one contender to the WWE Championship by delivering the "Last Ride" and winning the match by pinfall?

Answer: The Undertaker

The match began with Big Show and Brock Lesnar teaming up to take down The Undertaker. When Lesnar went for a pinfall, Big Show quickly broke off their short-lived alliance. Undertaker almost pinned Lesnar in the middle of the match but Big Show pulled referee Mike Chioda from outside the ring to stop the count.

At the end, while Lesnar was beating Big Show in a corner, The Undertaker grabbed him and gave him the "Last Ride." Big Show fell from the ring, allowing Undertaker to complete the pin on Lesnar. Angle showed he wasn't intimidated and went into the ring to confront the "Dead Man".
