Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you're out in the woods and see a group of porcupines, what is the proper name for the group you've just seen?

Answer: Prickle

Porcupines are herbivores (plant-eating) and usually nocturnal (coming out at night). There are different species that live in North America, Africa, Europe, and parts of Asia!
2. Lots of people don't like sharks, but if you saw a group of them, what would you call it?

Answer: Shiver

A shiver of sharks is rather appropriate, if you ask me! The Great White Shark is what many people imagine when they think of sharks. Unfortunately, no zoo or aquarium is able to have one around for long, so unless you go to the ocean, you probably won't ever see one in person!
3. Flamingos are funny-looking birds that many zoos have, but what do you actually call a group of them?

Answer: Stand

Yes, a group of flamingos is called a stand! It makes sense if you think about it, since every time I visit them at the zoo, most of them seem to be standing on one leg. They get that bright pink color of theirs from the food that they eat - chicks are born without it!
4. Frogs are fun to watch around a pond, but if you see a bunch of them, what is the proper name for the group?

Answer: Army

Baby frogs are tadpoles, and have no legs. They do have a tail, though! Where I grew up, male bullfrogs sang all summer long to let females know where they were. Frogs and toads have different group names - the frog's is an 'army', while the toad's is a 'knot'.
5. If I'm out walking and see a group of otters in the water, what group word should I use when I tell my friends?

Answer: Raft

Otters are one of those strange animals that get a different group name depending on whether they're in the water or not. In the water, a group is called a 'raft'; on land they can be called a 'romp', 'bevy', 'family', or even a 'lodge'!
6. Lots of people keep parrots for pets, but if someone had a group of them as pets, what would they have?

Answer: A Pandemonium

Many parrots are considered to be highly intelligent, and can even learn to say certain words. Others don't speak, but instead sing/whistle tunes. They can also live a long time, so they have quite a bit of time to learn!
7. Rhinos are probably best known for their horns, but if you saw a bunch of these animals together, what would you call it?

Answer: Crash

There are five species of rhinoceros, and they all have at least one horn. Some, like the black rhinoceros, have two though. If you ask me, whoever thought to call a group of rhinos a crash had quite an imagination!
8. I love to see hawks soaring overhead - they look so free! If I saw a bunch of them flying though, what would I have seen?

Answer: A Cast

Hawks are found all over the world, including some islands. They are often noted for their sharp eyesight - some scientist say they can even see colors that humans can't!
9. We can probably all imagine a crocodile in our heads, but do you know what you'd be thinking of if you imagined a group of them?

Answer: Float

Crocodiles are related to alligators. The world's largest living reptile is the saltwater crocodile, and it lives in parts of southeast Asia and northern Australia.
10. Everyone knows those long-necked animals giraffes - but what is a group of giraffes called?

Answer: Tower

Whether by themselves or in a 'tower', giraffes are the tallest living animal in the world. They live in Africa, and have two little horns on their head called 'ossicones'.
