Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of a baby alligator? The name is associated with this picture.

Answer: Hatchling

A baby alligator is called a hatchling. Its father is known as a bull and its mother is a cow. There are two different species of alligators in the world. One lot can be found in America and the other in China. Normally alligators try to avoid humans, but will attack if they feel threatened. The best thing to do is avoid them altogether!
2. What is the name of a young ape? It's the same general name as the subject in this photo.

Answer: Baby

A group of apes together is known as a shrewdness of apes. Apes are primates and can be found in Africa and South-East Asia in the wild. Unlike monkeys, apes do not possess a tail. They get around by a form of ambulation known as knuckle walking.
3. What is the name of a baby armadillo? It has the same name as this animal baby.

Answer: Pup

Armadillos can be found in South America and, to a lesser degree, in the southern states of North America. These unusual animals look as though they're wearing a little suit of armour. An armadillo can move very quickly on land, but if it enters water, it has to swallow large quantities of air to enable it to float, otherwise the weight of its thick layered skin makes it sink.
4. With the same name as this young animal, what is a baby camel called?

Answer: Calf

A male adult camel is called a bull, an adult female is a cow, their baby is referred to as a calf, and a group of camels is called a flock. Camels can be found in the northern part of Africa, in the Middle East and in parts of Asia. These animals are very valuable.

Not only do they provide a means of transport, they are also used to work in fields, and their milk and meat can be made into many different foods. Their meat and hair can also be used to make various products. They're quite amazing animals really, but don't get too close to one without adult supervision.

They can bite, kick or spit, and their breath pongs.
5. Looking at the age of the people in this photo, can you guess the name of a baby dinosaur?

Answer: Juvenile

Dinosaurs is a term used to apply to a wide range of prehistoric animals who lived millions of years ago on our planet. They ranged in size from the tiniest of creatures to giant beasts taller than large buildings. Some were only plant eaters, but others had very sharp teeth and were savage meat eaters. Nobody quite knows why they disappeared off the face of the earth, although there are many theories regarding this fact. Today, birds are the closest animal we have with any kind of direct link back to the dinosaurs.
6. From the picture clue given, what is the name of a baby ferret?

Answer: Kit

The male adult ferret is known as a hob, the adult female is a jill and the baby ferret is a kit. A number of ferrets in a group is referred to as a business. Ferrets, which are related to polecats, sleep a lot during the day, but can be quite annoyingly active at night.

When ferrets become excited, they perform a clumsy kind of dance where they jump and hop all over the place and bump into any objects in their way. When they're in the mood to play, they make soft sounds called dooking. What a cute name.

Otherwise, if they're angry or alarmed, they hiss.
7. Based on the picture clue, what is the likely name of a baby fish?

Answer: Fingerling

Groups of fish together are referred to as schools or shoals and a baby fish is called a fry or a fingerling. Being called a fry would worry me a little bit if I were a baby fish. How about you? I'd be keeping a wary eye out for the frying pan.
8. Eww, what is the name of a baby fly?

Answer: Maggot

Before flies turn into adults, they're ghastly looking things known as maggots. Maggots eat rotting flesh and all sorts of other decaying matter. In the olden days before penicillin was invented, many people used to die when their wounds became gangrenous. So do you know what the doctors used to do to try to save lives? They'd build a little enclosure round the wound and put in a few maggots to eat all the flesh that was beginning to die, or had died.

When I found that out, it gave me the creeps.

The maggots never ate the healthy flesh, though. Very considerate of them.
9. Going by the age of the subjects in this photo, what is the name of a baby goat?

Answer: Kid

Goats roamed naturally over most of the known world at one time or another, and were domesticated by humans long before many other animals were. Like camels, they provide meat and milk which can be made into various foods, and their skin can be used to make very many other useful objects. Even their bones were once used to make tools, and their sinews used to sew or tie things together.

They were, in short, worth their weight in gold, and any man who had a large herd of goats to his name was usually quite prosperous.

The adult male goat is called a buck or a billy, the female adult goat is referred to as a doe or a nanny, and the baby is a kid or billy. A group of goats is commonly referred to as a tribe or a herd or a trip. If anybody ever calls you a goat to try to be rude to you, don't feel insulted. Goats are actually quite intelligent animals.
10. Looking at the photo given for a clue, what is the name of a baby mouse?

Answer: Pinkie

Mice are pests to humans, but to cats, they're looked upon as dinner. Some people kept different breeds of mice as pets, however. Apart from being looked upon as pests by most of us, mice do provide an important source of food for various other animals in Mother Nature's endless and amazing cycle of life.

Some humans in certain parts of the world today, such as in Africa, also eat mice in order to survive, which is very sad. I'm not quite sure I could eat one though, could you? Still, I suppose if we were starving from lack of food, we really would eat just about anything without screwing up our noses. I might object to Brussels sprouts, however.
