Can't Think of a Title Trivia Quiz

This is a quiz without a specific theme. It was based on several facts I was interested in and decided to pull together as a quiz. The lack of a specific theme made it difficult to create a title.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the condition for saying that an "en caul" birth occurred?

Answer: When the baby was born encased in his amniotic sac

During pregnancy, the fetus is wrapped in the amniotic sac that protects and helps him or her to be fed. This sac normally ruptures when the baby is born. However, sometimes, the baby comes out still inside or partially wrapped in the amniotic sac, leaving the medical team to "unwrap" the baby. A "caul" birth occurs when the baby is born with a small piece of the membrane or sac covering his or her face or head.

An "en caul" birth, also called "mermaid birth" or "veiled birth", is when the baby is born encased in the amniotic sac or caul (veil), wrapped in a soft bubble. This is a rare event, which occurs more frequently when the baby is delivered in cesarean section birth. This fact poses no risk to either the mother or the baby.

As the "en caul" birth is a rare event, in many cultures it is considered a miracle. Among other things, it is believed that both the baby and his family will have good luck.
2. Did seahorses evolve from horses?

Answer: No

No. The horse is a land animal while the seahorse is a water animal, a small marine fish species in the genus Hippocampus. The word seahorse comes from the Ancient Greek hippókampus, from híppos meaning "horse" and kámpos meaning "sea monster" or "sea animal". They are named for their equine appearance, bent necks, long-snouted heads, and distinctive trunks.

The Hippocampus is a mythological creature shared by various peoples, described as having the upper body of a horse with the lower body of a fish. In Homer's Iliad, Poseidon is described as driving a sea chariot drawn by a hippocampus. They can be seen in various works of art and literature.
3. Which Australian state borders four other states and one territory?

Answer: South Australia

Australia, officially the Commonwealth of Australia, is one of the largest countries in the world and comprises the mainland of the Australian continent, the island of Tasmania, and numerous small islands. Australia is made up of six states and five territories. The state of South Australia is the only one that borders the other four states: Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales, and Western Australia, in addition to the Northern Territory.

South Australia or Meridional Australia, a state in south-central Australia, has about one-eighth the area of the country, less than 8% of the country's population. It occupies dry areas, mostly barren, but the southern fringe consists of fertile, well-watered land. Its capital is Adelaide, on the south coast.
4. In a soccer game sometimes we can, with great luck, see a "perfect hat trick". This occurs when the same player scores three goals and still meets another condition; what is this condition?

Answer: One goal is scored with the head, one with the left foot, and one with the right foot

A soccer game becomes more interesting when there are several goals. On occasions when a hat trick occurs, that is, a player scores three times in a single game, the spectacle becomes a party. The first recorded hat-trick in an international soccer match occurred in 1878 when John McDougall scored three goals for Scotland against England. Since then there is a long list of players who have accomplished this feat.

There is still the chance of something rarer happening: the "perfect hat trick". It occurs when a player scores one goal with his left foot, another with his right foot, and another with his head, the order does not matter. To see a perfect hat trick watch a match by Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Agüero, and other ball artists.
5. Looking at my dentist's face I noticed that there was something different about his eyes. He told me he was born with heterochromia. What's different about him?

Answer: One eye of each color

"Heterochromia" is an anatomical condition in which multiple coloring occurs in the eyes, skin, or hair. Heterochromia or heterochromia iridium occurs when there is a difference between the colors of the two irises, commonly involving the whole iris, or only affecting part of the iris (sectoral heterochromia).

This condition affects humans and also some domestic animals. The causes of this anomaly can be congenital or acquired by trauma, disease, etc.
6. Norway is the country that has the longest coastline in Europe. Which of these countries has the shortest coastline in Europe?

Answer: Monaco

Norway has the second longest coastline in the world and the largest one in Europe. The principality of Monaco, located on the French Riviera, has only 2.5 mi (4.0 km) of shorelines, making it the shortest coastline not only in Europe but in the entire world. Monaco borders France on three sides and the Mediterranean Sea on another side.
7. The sentence 'So help me God' is contained in the American Inaugural Oath.

Answer: False

False. The Inaugural Oath is as follows: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of the President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." The popular addition "so help me God" is not in the text and never was, although some presidents have used this phrase, as well as some have sworn on a Bible.

There is no agreement among historians on which American president was the first to include the phrase: "So help me God" in his oath of office. Chester Alan Arthur was a president who included the phrase upon assuming the presidency after the assassination of President James A. Garfield.
8. Where can one visit the tomb of Karl Marx?

Answer: London

The German philosopher, economist, historian, and revolutionary socialist Karl Heinrich Marx's (1818 - 1883) grave can be visited at Highgate Cemetery (East) in North London, in an area reserved for agnostics and atheists. He moved to London in 1849 where he wrote important works including "Das Kapital" (1867 - 1883) and he remained there until his death. In addition to Marx, his wife, and other family members are buried in the monument.

The tomb was designed by the English sculptor Laurence Bradshaw and consists of a bronze bust of Marx set on a marble pedestal, where several phrases of the philosopher are written, among them the final words of The Communist Manifesto, "Workers of all lands unite".
9. "Hikikomori" 'is a psychological condition in which a person avoids social interaction for an extended period.

Answer: True

True. "Hikikomori" (which literally means "to pull inward) is a term used in Japan to describe a severe form of social isolation mainly by teenagers and young adults, people aged between 15 and 39. Many people are socially isolated and confined in their parents' homes, unable to work or study; they often spend a lot of time playing video games, reading manga, and sometimes immersed in virtual reality, exchanging day for night.

Studies done in Japan have classified Hikikomori as a psychiatric disorder. However, its characteristics do not exactly fit any existing disorder, including psychosis, social disorder, depressive disorder, internet addiction, and post-traumatic stress disorder. It is a syndrome linked to culture and is present practically all over the world.
10. Which of these personalities is the author of the phrase: "I hate every wave of the ocean ..."?

Answer: Charles Darwin

The English scientist Charles Darwin (1809 -1872) is known for his theory of evolution through natural selection. Aboard the HMS Beagle, Darwin sailed around the world for nearly five years, from December 1831 to October 1836.

Away from his family, in poor traveling conditions, after nearly 5 years afloat, the seasick Charles Darwin wrote to his cousin and friend William Darwin Fox, from Hobart Town, Van Diemen's land (now Tasmania): "I hate every wave of the ocean, with a fervor, which you, who have only seen the green waters of the shore, can never understand."
