Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As always I like to start easy. Is the bow of the ship the front or the back?

Answer: front

The back is called the stern. I remember this by noting that you always bow forward!
2. Here's one that plagued me for a while. Are Chinese gooseberries and kiwi fruit the same thing?

Answer: Yes

They are both the same fruit. Someone decided that they would sell better with the name "Kiwi Fruit".
3. Now for one that is commonly seen around the FunTrivia parts. The first James Bond movie was a made for TV film from 1954. But which one was it?

Answer: "Casino Royale"

"Dr. No" wasn't released until 1962.
4. I always get crocodiles and alligators mixed up. But there is one major difference between them that makes it easier. Which one lives in fresh water only?

Answer: alligator

The crocodile's skull and jaws are longer and narrower than the alligator's. Their teeth are also different, the large fourth upper tooth in particular is easy to spot in a crocodile, but not an alligator.
5. Another boat question. Is port right or left?

Answer: left

The easy way to remember this one is that there are 4 letters in left, and 4 letters in port! Starboard means right.
6. Goodness me, those plurals can be confusing. Especially when playing board games. Which of the following is a correct statement (using the plural in the traditional sense)?

Answer: "I rolled one die"

"Die" is singular: you have one die. "Dice" is plural: you roll 2 or more dice. Many dictionaries refer to dice as both plural and singular as common use. Hope that cleared it up for some of you.
7. Remember when Germany was split into East and West? Which had the capital of East Berlin?

Answer: East

West Germany's capital was Bonn.
8. Oscar Wilde and Mark Twain were both famous for many amusing quotes. But which one of them said "One can survive everything nowadays except death"?

Answer: wilde

The major difference of course between the two is that Wilde was Irish, and Twain American. Twain once said: "Our Heavenly Father invented man because he was disappointed in the monkey".
9. Which of the following mainly lives only on land?

Answer: Tortoises

Tortoises tend to live in hot and dry climates, whilst turtles inhabit all but one continent (Antarctica), and live in both the water and on the land.
10. Brazil and Argentina. Two soccer greats of the world cup. But which country won the most World Cups between 1930 and 2010 (inclusive)?

Answer: brazil

Brazil has won 5 (1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002) whilst Argentina has won 2 (1978 and 1986). Let me know if you liked the sequel.
