Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Fred, the new delivery driver, has been told to load the lorry with 12 cases of Camellia sinensis and 12 cases of Camellia assamica. Trouble is, he doesn't know what this is. What is he looking for in the warehouse?

Answer: Tea

Tea is separated into either Chinese or Indian. Camellia sinensis is Chinese and Camellia assamica is Indian. The leaves and leaf buds are used to make the tea, and the various varieties come from either the way these are then processed or from blending. Where the plants are grown also affects the flavour of the tea.

The amount of light, rain and heat that the bush is subjected to all affect the final cup of tea that we drink in the morning.
2. Having achieved his first delivery, Fred is feeling quite pleased with himself. Back at the warehouse, though, he is faced with another dilemma. He has to load up with cases of bain maries. In which department of the warehouse should he look for these?

Answer: Kitchen equipment

A bain marie is a type of saucepan. The lower part is filled with water and the upper part, which is partially immersed in the water, holds the item(s) to be cooked. Interestingly these were not originally developed for cooking. They were first used by scientists for gentle heating of materials.

In cookery they are especially useful for thick sauces as they prevent curdling, and also for gentle melting of things like chocolate.
3. Fred is getting the hang of this. That is, until he answers the phone and is told to make an urgent delivery. He has to go overland to Ulan Bator. It doesn't show on his satellite navigation system. Where does he have to go to?

Answer: Mongolia

Fred has to find his way to Mongolia. Ulan Bator is the largest city in Mongolia, and is also the capital. There has been a settlement there since the 1700s. From the 1920s until 1990 it was part of the Soviet Union, and during that period rail links with both Moscow and Beijing were established. It is now the true heart of independent Mongolia.
4. Fred is quite pleased with his first long trip. He even manages to pick up a load for the return journey and comes back to the warehouse with a lorry load of byaslag. What is this?

Answer: Cheese

Byslag is a generic name for Mongolian cheese. The cream is taken from the milk which can come from cattle, sheep, goats, horses or even yaks, and the cheese is then made from the skimmed milk. Fermented mare's milk is used to make airag, the most popular beverage in the country.

Much of Mongolia is still rural so there is a high degree of self-sufficiency and self-reliance. Animal products and by-products are an important part of the rural diet and economy.
5. Back on local deliveries, Fred takes a phone call from a local shop. "Do you deliver"? asks the manager. "Yes", says Fred. The manager is delighted. "Please rush me ten each of the 'In Death' series," he says. What does he want?

Answer: Books

He wants the whole series of the "In Death" books by J.D. Robb. Set in a New York of the future, these books feature Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas, her husband Roarke and various friends and colleagues. J.D. Robb is a pen name of prolific romantic novelist Nora Roberts.
6. Fred is doing such a good job that he has been entrusted with a special delivery. He has to get some Christian Louboutins to a famous lady. What is he delivering now?

Answer: Shoes

Christian Louboutin is a French designer who produces the famous shoes with the red soles. Beloved by women who love shoes (and let's face it, most of us do), these are not cheap. The lower price range is several hundred pounds, and boots can be well over a thousand pounds. He is equaled in price by Manolo Blahnik, another whose shoes come into the longed-for category.
7. Fred is doing so well he is being allowed to do a livestock delivery. He has to prepare the wagon for a prize-winning Charolais, which is being transported to a new home to father lots of babies. What type of animal does he need to prepare for?

Answer: Bull

Fred is going to be transporting a Charolais bull. This is a French breed with an almost pure white coat. They are bred mainly for meat, and cross breed very well with others, especially Angus and Hereford. The bulls are big, weighing in at anything up to 2,400lbs.

They have proved popular, both in their own right and as cross-breeders, all over the world. Many English farms have either pure or crossbred Charolais, as do farms in America and Australia.
8. It's all been going too well. Fred needs his truck loaded urgently, but the fork lift driver is off sick. In the UK, can Fred just jump on the fork lift and use it himself?

Answer: No, not without training and certification.

Anyone in the UK operating a fork lift truck must, under Health and Safety law, have had a proper training course and be a certified fork lift truck operator. Used incorrectly, fork lifts can topple over, or the load could be dropped on someone. Operators have to be in good physical health and not have taken any alcohol or drugs before they use the truck.

The National Safety Council run accredited training courses. All employers are expected to make sure their fork lift truck operators have a certificate, and that refresher training is given at regular intervals.
9. Fred finally has his lorry loaded and is off on his next delivery. He has to get Harris Tweed to Saville Row in London as soon as possible. What will it be used for?

Answer: Making men's suits

True Harris Tweed comes from the Outer Hebrides in Scotland. The colours in it originally reflected the local plants that were used for the dyes. It has been used for suits and jackets for many years, and is noted for being hard wearing. It is also used in tailored suits for women. Saville Row is noted for gentlemen's tailoring.

It is home to many of London's best bespoke tailors. Many still manufacture their suits on the premises, often in basement workrooms.
10. Well, Fred has finally gotten the hang of it. He is being trusted to deliver marquees, tables, chairs and crockery to no less a place than Buckingham Palace. Why might the king want these items?

Answer: Garden party

Every summer, the King of England has at least three garden parties in the grounds of Buckingham Palace as well as at least one at Hollyrood House in Scotland. People invited are usually being recognised for some form of public service or charity work.

The members of the royal family mingle with the guests before going to the royal tea tent, where specially invited guests take tea with them. Tea for everyone else is served in large tea tents. The food normally consists of sandwiches and cakes served from buffet style tables, with of course, cups of tea.
