Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Somebody just spotted my friend at the US airport that shares his name. In which US city and state might the elusive Logan be hiding?

Answer: Boston, Massachusetts

Logan International Airport lies in East Boston and the adjoining town of Winthrop. Named for General Edward Lawrence Logan, it is the busiest in the northeastern states, and was used by over twenty-nine million passengers in 2012.

General Logan was a member of the Massachusetts State Militia, a Harvard graduate, and a prominent lawyer during the early 20th century.
2. One of our teammates has a hunch that Logan might be in Ohio, hanging out near a memorial that is dedicated to the Native American orator who wrote a very famous speech in 1774. What is the name of this work, which was reprinted by Thomas Jefferson in 1782?

Answer: Logan's Lament

Logan the Orator was a Mingo (Cayuga) leader during the eighteenth century. Although many details of his life are unknown, historians believe he tried to maintain peace with the settlers until several of his family members were killed. Believing white men to be responsible, he subsequently led a series of attacks on white villages. The attacks contributed to the beginning of the conflict known as Dunmore's War.

Logan refused to attend later peace talks, sending a moving and heartfelt letter to Governor Dunmore. The letter became known as "Logan's Lament" and is still recognized by scholars for its eloquence.

The Logan Elm State Memorial is located in Circleville, Ohio.
