Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Cole and Dylan Sprouse spend a lot of time in the ventilation ducts on their Disney Channel show. This is how they get around the hotel from their room when they are grounded. In one instance, they try to stop a proposal by crawling around in the ducts. What show is this from?

Answer: The Suite Life of Zack and Cody

Both "That's So Suite Life of Hannah Montana" and "Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana" were specials of the combination of three Disney Channel shows. Both "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" and "The Suite Life on Deck" involve Zack and Cody Martin. However, only in "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" do they crawl around the vents to get around the hotel. Zack and Cody usually end up being caught, and occasionally see Mr. Moseby in the ducts waiting for them around the corner. Those ducts are rather roomy.

In one episode, Cody even mentions that the ducts never seem to be any smaller even though they are getting bigger. The show ran from March of 2005 to September of 2008, where the boys move to the SS Tipton, a cruise ship where they now school on "The Suite Life on Deck".
2. In 2006, Tim Allen crawled around in a ventilation duct. Of course, he had been turned into a dog and was in an animal testing lab and needed to escape with a bunch of other animals. What movie remake am I talking about?

Answer: The Shaggy Dog

In "The Shaggy Dog", Tim Allen plays the father, Dave Douglas, in the movie. Dave gets bitten by a hundreds of years old magical dog. The dog bite causes Dave to turn into a dog quite often. His family does not know it, however. During the movie, Dave, as the dog, has to rescue a bunch of different animals from the animal testing lab.

They all crawl out through the ventilation ducts.
3. There is a very unlikely hero in this 2009 film with Kevin James. In this movie, Kevin James' character must crawl into the ventilation ducts to hide from some bad guys. Unfortunately, the duct breaks and he slides out, knocking one bad guy unconscious. What movie could this be?

Answer: Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Paul Blart is an ordinary heavy-set cop in a mall. When the mall closes because some people have been taken hostage, it is up to Paul to save them and the day. Throughout the movie, several bad guys are captured by Paul Blart, and, like any movie, Paul ends up winning in the end. Blart captured the enemies in several different ways, including trapping someone in a ball pit, knocking someone out with ventilation ducts, and hiding as a hockey player mannequin and attacking someone from behind.

This isn't the only scene Paul is in the ducts, however. He manages to get to the hostages at one point in time, and tries to bring them to safety through the ducts. However, the weight of so many people causes the vent to break, and they all fall through the ceiling right back to where they started.
4. For this question, we move to another Tim Allen movie. It is not necessarily a ventilation duct, but there are fans in here, and it is in the interior of the ship. Jason and Gwen must travel through these "ducts" to deactivate the self-destruct mechanism. In which of these movies do you find the Omega 13?

Answer: Galaxy Quest

Jason is played by Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver played Gwen in this 1999 science fiction film. Jason and Gwen are part of the cast of a very successful television show called "Galaxy Quest". When real aliens come down to ask them to help them, thinking they are not actors, but real superheroes, they, mostly unwillingly, accept.

In one scene, Jason and Gwen must travel through the ducts to turn off the self-destruct. When they are traveling across a small beam over a fan, they look up, and see the Omega 13. Later on in the movie, the Omega 13 is used by Jason to turn back time for 13 seconds.
5. Luke Skywalker has been in his fair share of odd places and horrible situations, including round ventilation ducts. In which "Star Wars" movie does Luke slide down a ventilation duct after having his right hand sliced clean off?

Answer: The Empire Strikes Back

"The Empire Strikes Back" was released in 1980. In one scene, Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker have a duel in Cloud City. It is during this lightsaber battle that Vader tells Skywalker that he is his father. Luke's right hand is cut off by Vader's lightsaber, and Luke jumps down into the air shafts. Through this ductwork he goes, until he finds his way out of the ducts, and is left hanging on above a seemingly bottomless pit. Leia, who is a Skywalker and has the powers of the force, although she doesn't realize it, senses that Luke is in danger, and the Millennium Falcon goes to save Luke.
6. All these movies are too much for me. Now it is time for a video game--that is more my style! Anyway, there is a certain video game character who spends a lot of time in the ventilation ducts. Whether this is to hide from guards, get to a new location, or to take recon photos, he is in there a lot. Some of the recon photos include taking pictures of Neyla and a set of metal wings. What video game series is this?

Answer: Sly Cooper

Sly Cooper is the main character in the "Sly Cooper" trilogy, along with Bentley and Murray. Sly spends a lot of time in the ducts. He takes a lot of pictures of people and objects with his camera, so you must hide in the ducts so as not to get caught. Sly is a thief, so he strives not to be seen by any guards.

But he is a good thief. He usually 'steals back what was wrongfully stolen.' "Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus" was released in 2002, "Sly 2: Band of Thieves" was released in 2004, and "Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves" was released in 2005. Something interesting about "Sly 3" is that special 3-D goggles were given inside the game so the player could choose to play certain parts of the game in 3-D!
7. James Bond is a very widely known and loved character. Books have become movies, and movies have become video games. Even James Bond has been in a ventilation duct a time or two. In which James Bond video game did players need to drop down from inside a ventilation duct?

Answer: Goldeneye 007 (N64)

"Goldeneye 007" was released in 1997 for the Nintendo 64 by Rare. This game is not to be confused with "Goldeneye: Rogue Agent" for the Gamecube, as they are different games completely. Near the beginning of the game, in the second level, is where you must drop from the ducts. The level is called "Facility".

Thanks to kyleisalive for help with this question.
8. Spencer from "iCarly" has once travelled through a ventilation duct. In an "iCarly" special, he and Mrs. Benson get wrapped in seaweed before they are locked in a room. Spencer finally gnaws his way through the seaweed, and once they are both free, they must find a way out. There is a duct, and Spencer tries to find an exit by going through the vents. Once he finds light, however, he is crushed to discover it simply led to the other side of the room. What "iCarly" special is this?

Answer: iGo to Japan

All of the mentioned episodes were "iCarly" specials. "iPilot" was the very first ever "iCarly" episode, dating back to September of 2007. "iLook Alike" was a special episode where Carly, Sam, and Freddie have a contest for the best look-alikes of themselves, and then they use them so they can go to a fight.

A whole night was devoted to the "iCarly: iLook Alike" episode. It premiered in March of 2009. "iFight Shelby Marx" is a special movie that aired in August of 2009. "iGo to Japan" was also a special TV-movie that was shown in November of 2008.

This was the first "iCarly" movie.
9. Wow, it's kind of hot and humid in this building. I sure hope the ventilation system is running properly. Without the ducts running smoothly, a serious disease can be caught. If the room is poorly ventilated, the air conditioning can actually spread this disease around. What disease was first discovered during an outbreak in Philadelphia in 1976?

Answer: Legionnaire's Disease

Legionellosis is an infection one can get from bacteria. Legionnaire's Disease is the more serious form of legionellosis, and can cause pneumonia. It is caused by breathing in the bacteria particles into the lungs from the air. You cannot see this bacteria, so you don't know if you breathed some in until you show symptoms. Some cases are very severe, while others produce very few symptoms, and sometimes none at all!

Thanks to Rowena8482 for help with this question.
10. Uh oh, now I'm in the ventilation ducts! I sure hope I don't die. Is it possible to die in a ventilation duct?

Answer: Yes

It is most definitely possible to die in the ventilation ducts. There are several ways in which this can happen. One, you could try to squeeze through a small opening, get stuck, and die. Two, you could cut yourself on a piece of metal or something and bleed to death. Three, you could get lost in the vents, and not find your way out, and die of starvation. Four, the heater could turn on, and you would die of too much heat.

It is possible to be burned by the metal, or worse; you could suffer a lot of water loss, and therefore die of dehydration. So, please, I am begging you, don't try to crawl through the ventilation ducts!
