'Gus' is one of T.S. Eliot's creations in 'Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats'. The stage musical, 'Cats', was based on this book and created with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Born in 1812, he was the son of a French emigre aristocrat, Auguste Pugin who had come to England to escape the French Revolution. Auguste Pugin was an artist and draughtsman, and it was from him that Augustus learned to love all things Gothic.
