1. Great Australian Bight - Tasman Sea

Answer: Bass Strait

The Bass Strait lies between the Australian mainland and Australia's only island state of Tasmania. It is named after George Bass, an English explorer and physicist. George Bass, along with Matthew Flinders, completed the first recorded circumnavigation of Tasmania (then known as Van Diemen's Land) in the late 18th century.

Prior to the construction of the Panama Canal, it was one of the only ways connecting these two bodies, along with the Beagle Channel.

The Strait of Otranto separates the European countries of Italy and Albania. It gets its name from the Italian city of Otranto. This channel played an important part in World War I with the Allies using it to block the Austro-Hungarian navy from the Mediterranean Sea, a manoeuvre known as the "Otranto Barrage".
