Hawick, the second-largest town in the Borders, was part of Roxburghshire, along with the county town of Jedburgh, Kelso, and Melrose. Also located in Roxburghshire was Newtown St Boswells, which became the administrative centre of the "new" county.
Duns was the county town of Berwickshire, with Coldstream and the fishing port of Eyemouth also located there.
Peebles was the county town of Peeblesshire, with Innerleithen also being part of that former county.
The six decoy towns are all located in the Highland council area of Scotland.
