Samuel Wilson was a meatpacker in Troy, NY during the War of 1812. Per law, Wilson stamped E.A-U.S. on the shipments. It stood for Elbert Anderson (the name of the contractor) and United States (location) as those were the two things the law required to be on it. However, when asked what E.A. - U.S. stood for, one of his co-workers making a joke replied, "Elbert Anderson, and Uncle Sam."

The Merriam-Webster dictionary's second definition of vaudeville is "stage entertainment consisting of various acts." Eric Hilton designed the glass sculpture which was dedicated May 24, 2000. He entitled it, "Seeds of Enlightenment." It is in the North Concourse of the Empire State Plaza. Billy "Flash" Harrell (1928-2014) played in the Negro Leagues in 1951 with the Birmingham Barons. The Negro Leagues were formed by Black baseball players in 1920 due to the fact they were not allowed to play with white players in the minors or major leagues of professional baseball. It wasn't until April 15, 1947, when Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier that things started to change, but still, that took time; it did not happen overnight.

1952 Harrell signed with the Cleveland Indians but did not debut until 1955. He later played with the Red Sox as well. He was an infielder.
