Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
The M4 motorway is a significant piece of human geography in South Wales with major Welsh settlements such as Cardiff, Swansea and Newport to be found along its route. Other Welsh settlements close to the M4 motorway are Neath (Norman town that is the ancestral home of the Welsh Rugby Union), Caldicot (close to the bridges over the River Severn) and Maesteg (iron and coal town north of Bridgend).
Venturing away from the tarmac of the M4 we have the somewhat more bucolic Welsh town of Monmouth (a quaint town that is a stone's throw from the border with England). Heading into mid-Wales, one can find Machynlleth, a town that lays claim to being the "ancient capital of Wales".
Wales is renowned for its impressive coastline that features the pristine beaches of Gower peninsula. The approximately 1,680 miles of Welsh coast is also where towns such as Fishguard, Cardigan, Barmouth, Flint and Prestatyn can all be found. Wales is renowned for the Wales Coast Path, which allows visitors to explore the entire coastline from south east to north east via the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
The incorrect answers are spread across England and Scotland, from the small Cornish village of St Erth (home to a railway station that is the penultimate stop on the route from London Paddington to Penzance) to the Scottish town of Gourock (west of Glasgow). The English town of Birkenhead is geographically separated from Liverpool by the River Mersey. Oswestry (Croesoswallt, in Welsh) is in England but close to the Welsh border and Penrith is a market town on the edge of the Lake District.
