Hitchhiker Explores the Universe Quiz

Don't Panic! This is a quiz about the first book of the five-part trilogy. In fact, there is a trivial question for each of the first ten chapters. A warning: when we say trivia, we really mean trivia. "THHGTTG" means "The Hitch Hiker's to the Galaxy".

Answer: Mr. Prosser

Mr. Prosser was described as being "forty, fat, and shabby" with "a pronounced stoutness about the tum and a predilection for little fur hats".
He was trying to convince Arthur Dent to move out of the way of the bulldozer, so that they could complete their job.
2. "THHGTTG" - Chapter 2. Ford Prefect managed to get Arthur Dent to follow him to the local down the road. What was the name of the village pub?

Answer: Horse and Groom

Red Lion is the most common pub name in England, but it wasn't the one that Ford and Arthur went to.
Ford ordered six pints of bitter and told Arthur that they had 10 minutes to drink them, because the world was going to end.
He also said that the beer was a "muscle relaxant".

6. "THHGTTG" - Chapter 6. When inserted in one's ear, the Babel fish was an automatic translator for any form of language. What colour was it?

Answer: Yellow

The Babel fish is described in the "Guide" as "small, yellow and leech-like, and probably the oddest thing in the Universe".
It had the ability to absorb brainwave energy and then give out nerve signals, in such a way that the user was able to understand any spoken language.
7. "THHGTTG" - Chapter 7. What was repeated at regular intervals by the Vogon guard as he was taking Arthur and Ford towards the airlock?

Answer: Resistence is useless

The guard was taking his prisoners to airlock number three from where they would be ejected into space. They both tried to appeal to his good nature, but to no avail. He kept repeating the phrase over and over.
8. "THHGTTG" - Chapter 8. According to the "Guide", what was the record for hitchhiking to the other side of the Galaxy?

Answer: Just under five years

The planet Damogran was mentioned as being on the other side of the universe, where light from Sol would take five hundred thousand years to reach it.
As stated in the "Guide", "... if you hold a lungful of air you can survive in the total vacuum of space for about thirty seconds."

Answer: Infinite Improbability Drive
