Answer: On a tram

Miss Marple tells the group that her suspicions were aroused when they were on a tram and Mr Sanders, a sea man, had supposedly lost his footing and knocked his wife down the stairs. Luckily she was caught by the conductor.
4. What was Mrs Sanders' first name?

Answer: Gladys

Gladys Sanders had some money that was in trust for her. She could not touch it but had made a will leaving the money to her husband on the event of her death.
5. How had the housemaid died?

Answer: Septic finger

The housemaid had died of a septic finger. This was very much a subject of conversation amongst the guests although the doctor wanted to keep the death quiet for the time being. There had also been another death of one of the other staff prior to this.
6. What was the name of the doctor who told Miss Marple about the housemaid?

Answer: Dr Coles

Dr Coles told Miss Marple this after he had been to see her about her rheumatism. He told her to keep it to herself for the time being, unaware that the whole spa knew already.
7. When Miss Marple went back to the Sanders' room with the police, what item on the body was different from the first time she was in there?

Answer: Hat

The first time Miss Marple was in there the hat was on the woman's head. However, this time, the hat was placed by the body despite the fact that no-one had supposedly touched the body.
8. Who did Mrs Sanders play bridge with on the afternoon of her death?

Answer: Mortimers

Mrs Sanders had been playing bridge at the Mortimers' when she received a phone call that left her flustered. It wasn't long after this that she left and returned to the spa.
9. Who else had been with Miss Marple and Mr Sanders when they discovered the body?

Answer: Miss Trolloppe

Miss Trolloppe is very upset and is visibly shaken. Miss Marple doesn't approve of this as her mother taught her that "a gentlewoman should always be able to control herself in public, however much she may give way in private".
10. When they tried to fit the hat on Mrs Sanders' head, it was too big.

Answer: False

It was actually too small. This was because Sanders had placed the body of the housemaid on the floor in his wife's clothes. He was unable to get into the hat cupboard so had to use the maid's own. Later when he killed his wife and put her in the same place, he had to use the same hat. But it would not fit.
