Raymond West, Miss Marple's nephew, is the first to bring up the subject of unsolved mysteries. Joyce is the one who actually comes up with the idea of forming a club.

Sir Richard Haydon purchased the property with the rather unimaginative name of Silent Grove. However, he believed he had an authentic Grove of Astarte on his property. Astarte was a Phoenician goddess to whom the ancient Phonicians performed sacred rites.

Dr. Pender was dressed as a monk, Richard Haydon was dressed as a Phoenician sailor and Captain Rogers and his wife used the hearth rugs to dress as the Neolithic hut dwellers.

Raymond West was travelling to Cornwall to stay with a new acquaintance of his named Newman. Newman was attempting to retrieve lost treasure from a sunken ship of the Spanish Armada. Inspector Badgworth was travelling down to Cornwall to look into the disappearance of gold that the Otranto had recently been carrying.

The real thieves attempted to frame Kelvin for the crime they had committed. The name of his inn was the Three Anchors. Pol House was the name of the house that Newman was living in.

Carol's bathing suit was red, Margery was wearing a dark blue one. The reason that there were bloodstains on the pavement was that when Margery was murdered some of the blood got on Carol's suit. She didn't notice it because it was a red suit. But when she got back to the inn and hung it out to dry the blood dripped onto the pavement below.

Rathole was the name of the quaint little village in Cornwall where Joyce witnessed the bloodstained pavement. Polperran was the name of the village that Raymond had mentioned in the story "Ingots of Gold". Landeer Cove was the name of the town where Margery had "supposedly" drowned.

Christobel was the name of the old gentleman's granddaughter who had passed away from pneumonia when she was 11 years old. Eurydice was the first name of the American medium who was "contacting" Christobel with hopes of gaining a large fortune.

Garrod was the name of the young man who had married one of Simon Clode's nieces. He was convinced that Mrs. Spragg was a fraud and when Professor Longman was unable to find proof of the fact, he used a rather unscrupulous means of his own to ensure she would inherit nothing.

Miss Marple saw a fresh haddock that made her think of the legend of St. Peter. She realized that when Geoffrey Denman was dying he talked of fish of some sort. This is what helped put Miss Marple onto the right track.

Old Mr. Denham, Geoffrey's father, was a little off his head. When he overheard Geoffrey and his wife Mabel, arguing over putting him in a nursing home he decided to do away with his son. He had atropine drops available to help with his failing eyesight.

Nurse Copling, who was in love with Mr. Pritchard, used litmus paper to turn the flowers on Mrs. Pritchard's wallpaper blue. It was a brillant idea, but she happened to try to use it once too often and was caught.

Greta Rosen was the one who actually murdered her uncle, after he had given her a home. She was a member of a secret terrorist agency from Germany called the "Schwartze Hand".

There were five names of different varities of dahlias mentioned in a letter received by Dr. Rosen by the morning post. When the first letter of the names were put together they spelled "death". That was Greta's cue to kill her uncle.

Gladys Sanders husband called her and used an alias to lure her away from her friends so that he could murder her. Spender and Hitchcock were the names of his friends that he brought back to the Keston Spa to help him establish an alibi.

Sanders used the body of a dead housemaid, who had died earlier in the day, to cover up the time of the real murder. He wasn't able to use one of his wife's hats because they were all locked up. When the body was looked at the second time, the hat wouldn't fit on the body, because it wasn't her hat.

Everyone present fell very ill because the ducks for dinner were stuffed with sage mixed with foxglove. Foxglove has a chemical called digitalis that made everyone feel very sick.

Jerry Lorimer was engaged to the girl that died, but he was really interested in her friend. After Sylvia's death he married Maud Wye. Sylvia was killed because her guardian, Sir Ambrose Bercy, couldn't bear to see her marry another man.

Miss Helier wasn't actually acting in any play. She was just trying out her story to see if anyone could figure it out, and she chose the play "Smith" because she would have a reason to dress like a parlormaid.

Answer: Miss Marple

Miss Marple knew the answer to the final problem, but kept Jane's secret for her. Jane was going to attempt to frame a woman that had stolen her first husband from her. Miss Marple warned her not to do it. Jane decided not to in case there were more Miss Marples out there.

Sir Henry Clithering was present the first time that the stories were told and he is the one that suggests that Mrs. Bantry invite her to the dinner party where the second collection of stories are told.
