"A Little Princess" - 1995 Version Quiz

You have to keep in mind that this is about the 1995 version, not the earlier version which did star Shirley Temple. Vanessa Lee Chester protrays Becky and Heather DeLoach portrays Ermengarde, one of Sara's school friends.

Sara's father moved from England to India. It does not say when though. So according to what the movie refers to, Sara is from India. Sara's father, Captain Crewe, says that India is the only place that "stirs the imagination".

Captain Crewe told Sara that if she is ever frightened, to just tell Emily, and Emily will get the messege to him. It is so sad when he leaves and Sara is left at the school. Also when she hugs Emily, it would be really like giving him a hug.

It says it right under Miss Minchin's name right outside the door of the school. Later in the movie the sign was changed. It read "The Randolph School for Girls". The schools neighbor, Mr. Randolph, took over the school after it was discovered that Miss Minchin lied about Sara's father not really being her father.

His name was John and his father was really upset when he lost him in the war. I thought that was sad as well. John lived next to the school that Sara attended, which shows that the world is smaller than you think. The war that Captain Crewe was fighting in was WWI. The movie takes place in 1914.

Sara gives Becky a pair of yellow shoes with fir around the edges. Sara saw Becky icing her feet in her room in the attic. Sara left the shoes in a box with a little friendly note on it for Becky. Becky and Sara become best friends, and later sisters, when Sara is made into a servant girl.

The story she tells reflects what is going in Sara's life. The same actor that played Captain Crewe played Prince Rama. This actor was Liam Cunningham. Queen Kaikay had banished her son because she was jealous of him.

Sara puts a yellow rose in the handles of the door of her mourning neighbor. She received the rose from a poor woman after Sara had given one of her daughters a roll, that she had purchased with the money a boy gave to her. The boy thought she was a begger.

Sara asks if she has to take French and Miss Minchin yells at her for being rude in front of the teacher. Sara then speaks in perfect French to the teacher in front of Miss Minchin. The teacher says that she could help the little ones and even Miss Minchin with her pronunciation. Miss Minchin did not look too happy about this.

The locket contains a picture of her father and mother. Miss Minchin had her eye on the locket ever since Sara had arrived and when Sara lost her father and had no money, she took the locket away. Sara's friends from school had their own "crusade" and "rescued" the locket from Miss Minchin's office while Miss Minchin was out.

Sara described the castle being made of hundreds of sunflowers and that their mother's ride on clouds through the sky. Lottie was screaming because her mother was dead and she would never see her again. Sara's mother had also died and so did Sara's baby sister.

Amelia runs off with the milkman when her sister is busy, she is going up to get the locket back from Sara. Amelia has to go out a second story window to be able to get away. She first threw her luggage out, knocking poor Frances over, and then jumped out after them onto Frances.

Everything is in different shades of green. The directors used it to make it look like an old fashioned movie with limited colors, but didn't want it to be in black and white. This is mentioned on the DVD. Sara has to wear black when she is a servant.

I think that Miss Minchin shows poor judgment on telling Sara that her father was dead on her birthday. She could have waited. Miss Minchin wasn't exactly the nicest person.

Sara moves to the drafty, dark cellar with Becky. Becky is the other servant girl. Sara is really upset at first and cries. When she first arrived there, she drew a circle around her with chalk, just like the prince in her stories did for Princess Sita. Miss Minchin said that Sara could be thrown out on the streets unless Miss Minchin keeps her there out of "charity".

Sara's father isn't really dead. They mistake him for the boarding school neighbor's son, John. He lost his memory until Sara was about to be taken to jail for supposedly stealing all these beautiful things that showed up in her room.

Her mother died, along with her baby sister. Sara had attended the same school as her mother did. There isn't much more said about her mother and her death, along with her baby sister.
