7. A British institution, "Carry On" was a series of 31 comedy movies made between 1958 and 1992. Which was the final installment in the series? It could have been 500 years in the making.

Answer: Carry on Columbus

"Carry On" movies were a series of British comedies that relied on innuendo and good old British humour to entertain their audiences. Thirty-one movies were made starting with "Carry on Sergeant" in 1958 and ending with "Carry on Columbus" in 1992. The cast of the movies were made up of many regulars including Sid James, Barbara Windsor and Kenneth Williams amongst many others. "Carry on Columbus" was made 14 years after the previous film and was considered to be inferior to the rest of the franchise.

The film was based on Columbus's voyage of discovery in 1492. Columbus, persuaded the King and Queen of Spain to sponsor his trip to find a quicker way to the far East. He is hindered when the Sultan of Turkey sends a spy to scupper his quest because it would mean an end to the taxes he levies on merchants passing through his country. By its release in 1992 around the 500th anniversary of the voyages, the type of humour seemed dated and a lot of the original ensemble cast were either dead or unavailable for the production.
