4. What motion picture character did Bert Lahr play?

Answer: The Cowardly Lion in The "Wizard of Oz"

Bert Lahr was of course the Cowardly Lion, whom Dorothy, Toto, The Scarecrow, and the Tin Man meet on their way to visit Oz. At first he terrorizes them, but then, little Toto exposes him for being the soft-natured, scaredy cat that he is. Lahr was a Broadway star at the time they filmed the movie.

As a comedian he had a certain schtick, or style of acting, and they were worked into his portrayal of author L. Frank Baum's literary creation. He also doubled as the character Zeke, one of the farmhands in Dorothy's Kansas home. Lahr's costume for the role weighed 90 pounds, and was made from actual lion skin. With temperatures often reaching 100 degrees on set because of the lighting, the costume became soaked in sweat at the end of each day.
