Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison Trivia Quiz

Corporal Allison was debarking from a submarine when it suddenly dived to avoid military confrontation with a Japanese war vessel. As a lone survivor, he finds a life raft and drifts until he beaches on a remote Pacific island where he luckily finds food, water and a Roman Catholic nun living alone in a small settlement.

Answer: no

Sister Angela hasn't taken her final vows as revealed by her answers to Allison's questions. Later in the movie, as he starts to feel attracted towards her, the Marine asks her if she could back out. Sister Angela replies that it is possible, but seems reticent to do so.

Father Philip had died shortly before Allison arrives and was apparently buried by Sister Angela. They had been on their way to Fiji, but the captain of their transport boat became fearful of Japanese attack, left them on the island and retreated. When Allison asks the nun if there were any cigarettes available, she gives him Father Philip's pipe and a small pouch of tobacco. Later, in a fit of rage, Allison smashes the pipe which hurts Sister Angela's feelings.

Answer: a Crucifix

While picking through the ashes, Allison find a charred Crucifix. He gives it to the nun who takes it with her when they relocate to their cave hideout.

Sister Angela could not bring herself to eat the raw fish that Allison provided by spearfishing at night to avoid being spotted by the Japanese. Cooking was dangerous since the Japanese might have spotted the fire. Allsion raids the Japanese camp to get some canned food, but has to hide quickly when a couple of soldiers come into the storeroom to play a game and drink sake.

Much later he is able to get away and back to the cave.

Answer: a sea turtle

When Sister Angela observes the turtle, she points it out to Allison. They get in the raft and capture the turtle to use for food.

Allison laments that Sister Angela is not unattractive as he starts to have feelings for her. He says "If ya gotta be a nun, why ain't ya old and ugly? Why do ya gotta have big blue eyes and a beautiful smile...and freckles?"

Answer: yes

When Allison learns that Sister Angela was destined to go to Fiji, he starts to build a sail for the raft from bamboo and palm fronds in hopes of getting to Fiji. They never leave, however, as the raft was destroyed by Japanese bombardment prior to their invading the island. It also destroyed the building and church, so Allison and Angela relocate to a cave.

Allison becomes intoxicated on a bottle of sake discovered in a bag of rice. With his inhibitions gone, he starts to make unwelcome advances towards Sister Angela alluding that they are like Adam and Eve alone in the Garden of Eden. She panics from the implication and runs out into a rainy night and gets soaked, after which she becomes ill.

Although Sister Angela gets sick after getting wet in a rain storm and Allison is wounded by friendly gunfire while trying to disarm the Japanese cannons when the Americans arrive, they both survive. American forces land, capture the Japanese, and free the refugees. Allison, having been wounded, is carried off in a stretcher, but it's implied his wound is not serious and he will recover.
