Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of Lee Geum-Ja's fellow inmates is known as The Witch, and is in prison for the murder of her husband and his mistress. What did she then do?

Answer: She ate the bodies.

The Witch is seen barbecuing and eating the remains of her husband and his lover, just before she is arrested. In prison, she is the most feared of the inmates, and bullies a lot of the quieter, weaker women.
2. While talking about her taste in women, what does the Witch say she dislikes?

Answer: Skinny women

The Witch first says this to Oh Su-Hee while they are in the bathroom, and says that she wishes Lee Geum-Ja would put on some weight. Later on in the film, when Lee Geum-Ja is caring for The Witch in the hospital, she tells Lee Geum-Ja that she only likes plump women. Lee Geum-Ja lies, and tells her that she will happily put on weight to please her.
3. When Lee Geum-Ja goes to visit Oh Su-Hee to call in her favour, Oh Su-Hee asks her why she has started wearing red eyeshadow. How does Lee Geum-Ja respond?

Answer: "I don't want to look kind-hearted."

Throughout her time in prison, Lee Geum-Ja carries out numerous good deeds to benefit the other prisoners, which earns her the nickname "the kind-hearted Miss Lee Geum-Ja". On her release, she calls in all the favours she earned in order to set her plan for revenge in motion. As she is so focused on revenge, she no longer wants to be seen as the good person everyone perceives her to be.
4. While being interrogated by Detective Choi, Lee Geum-Ja is asked what the colour of Won-Mo's marble is. What is her answer?

Answer: Light green

The marble is actually an orange-red colour. Detective Choi knows that Lee Geum-Ja is lying about committing the murder, even if he doesn't yet know why. After realising that she doesn't know these important details, he gives her the case file to read, as well as telling her the actual colour of the marble.
5. During the re-enactment of Won-Mo's murder, how does Detective Choi discretely tell Lee Geum-Ja which colour cushion to use?

Answer: He points to his brown watch.

Knowing that Lee Geum-Ja didn't actually commit the murder, Detective Choi realises that she doesn't know whether the brown or the green cushion was used to kill Won-Mo. He is under pressure to find the killer, and the media are all present at the re-enactment, so he helps Lee Geum-Ja to get the details correct.
6. Where is Lee Geum-Ja when she telephones Mr Baek to tell him that she is pregnant?

Answer: Aquarium

When the young Lee Geum-Ja discovers that she is pregnant, she decides that she can't return to either her mother or her father's house. Whilst wandering round an aquarium, she telephones Mr Baek, who had previously told her she was attractive while he was working as a trainee teacher in her class. Although he knows he is not the father, Mr Baek agrees to let Lee Geum-Ja stay with him.
7. What is Jenny's real first name, as written on the front of her adoption papers?

Answer: Yeh Nee

Lee Geum-Ja visits the adoption agency to try to find out what has happened to her daughter, but they are unable to give her any information. She returns later that night and breaks in. Her daughter's file has her real name, Yeh Nee, written in large letters across the front. From this file, Lee Geum-Ja learns that her daughter has been adopted abroad.
8. How did the pastry chef, Mr Chang, acquire his lame leg?

Answer: He was hit by a truck.

Mr Chang is hit by a truck while riding his bike under the influence of medication. His parents don't think he will ever be able to find a wife now that he has a disability, so they encourage him to start teaching baking at the women's prison. It is here where he first meets Lee Geum-Ja.
9. Mr Chang says that he was motivated to open his own bakery after eating a cake Lee Geum-Ja has made. What type of cake was this?

Answer: Raspberry mousse cake

Despite the low quality ingredients given to the prisoners, Lee Geum-Ja creates a raspberry mouse cake which, in Mr Chang's words, is fit for a king. Realising that he would be happier creating wonderful cakes like this, he opens the Na Ru Sae bakery. When Lee Geum-Ja is released from prison, Mr Chang is able to overlook her history, and employ her for her baking skills.
10. Lee Geum-Ja tells Geun-Shik the truth about Won-Mo's murder while they are chatting in her apartment. Why does she say that Mr Baek killed Won-Mo?

Answer: Won-Mo would not stop crying.

Although we know from early on in the film that Lee Geum-Ja is not guilty of Won-Mo's murder, this is the first time we hear the full story in her own words. She had previously been seen by a witness taking Won-Mo to a public bath, so she has someone to back up her claim of guilt. Mr Baek kidnaps Lee Geum-Ja's daughter, then still known as Yeh-Nee, and threatens to kill her if she does not confess.
