This 2017 film is a sequel to 2016's "Bad Moms". The same three mothers from that first film (Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn) are in "A Bad Mom's Christmas" and on Christmas Eve, they must face their relationships with their own mothers played by Christine Baranski, Cheryl Hines and Susan Sarandon, respectively.
The issue for Amy (Mila Kunis) is that she wants a simple Christmas with her kids, but her mother Ruth (Christine Baranski) has dropped in on them for a visit and insists on overdoing things.
2. The Christmas Chronicles
Answer: Kurt Russell
Kurt Russell plays none other than Santa Claus himself, who in this film is discovered by two children of a widow, after they set up a trip wire that detects when Santa has come down the chimney and into their house. They follow him and hide on his sleigh, and soon after Santa takes off through the air, the reindeer are startled by the presence of the two kids.
The sleigh crashes and Santa loses the reindeer. Santa enlists their help in trying to locate the reindeer so he can complete his traditional Yuletide mission.
3. Christmas Eve
Answer: Patrick Stewart
In "Christmas Eve" we cut between several characters who are all trapped in six different New York City elevators on Christmas Eve. Patrick Stewart who played Ebeneezer Scrooge in another Christmas Eve-set film, 1999's "A Christmas Story", plays one of the characters stuck in a lift in "Christmas Eve".
He plays a somewhat similar curmudgeon name Harris, a retired man reflecting on his life of loneliness, the relationships and life choices he made. Mr. Stewart was cast only three weeks into production of the film--the last person to be cast.
4. A Christmas Story
Answer: Darren McGavin
Little Ralphie wants a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle for Christmas. Everyone warns Ralphie that it's too dangerous a toy, so on Christmas Eve Ralphie visits the Higbee's Department store Santa and tells him about his wish for the air rifle. The result is the same warning, "You'll shoot your eye out kid!" as he unceremoniously shoves Ralphie down the exit slide.
But on Christmas morning, Ralphie's father, played wonderfully by Darren McGavin, comes to the rescue, and after Ralphie has somewhat contentedly finished opening his presents, McGavin nonchalantly observes, "Hey what's that over there behind the desk?" Ralphie looks at him and looks over at the desk. "Why don't you go check it out?" Ralphie looks at his old man again, almost not daring to hope for what McGavin is playing at. But he steps carefully over to the present slightly hidden behind the desk. You know what then happens in the memorably warm scene.
5. Die Hard
Answer: Bruce Willis
The debate rages on: "Is 'Die Hard' a Christmas movie or not?" One thing's for sure, the bulk of the movie takes place on Christmas Even in the Nakatomi Corporation building, where Detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) finds himself at war with a crew of deadly robbers pulling off a heist. All John wanted to do was spend Christmas Eve with his wife, but the deliciously smarmy and diabolical Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) stands in his way.
6. The Family Stone
Answer: Diane Keaton
Diane Keaton plays Sybil Stone, the matriarch of the family Stone and a very liberal and strong-willed breast cancer survivor. Keaton was the first person approached when the producers cast the film, and was very drawn to the character's layered and conflicting emotions.
The plot of the film is reminiscent of screwball romantic comedies like "The Philadelphia Story" or "Holiday" in which mismatched lovers perhaps meet their better match at a gathering for a special occasion. In this case, it's Christmas Eve, when Sybil's son Everett has brought his new girlfriend Meredith home.
However, her conservative nature seems at odds with the rest of the family's liberalism.
7. Love, Actually
Answer: Hugh Grant
"Love, Actually" functions almost as an anthology film with several different story lines it cuts between, but all are related taking place around Christmas, and particularly Christmas Eve. Amongst the all-star cast is Hugh Grant playing the part of David - he is single and was elected as the British Prime Minister.
When a roguish American President visits England for a meeting with David, the President makes a move on David's assistant Natalie. This prompts David to stand firm in a press conference against the President's policy. David finds a letter in his mail box from Natalie who professes her devotion to him.
He searches for her and they meet at a Christmas school play and kiss.
8. The Night Before
Answer: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Ethan, who along with his lifelong friends, Isaac and Chris, spend Christmas Eve searching for the ultimate Christmas Party - it's become a ritual for them. Their most sought-after holiday party is something called the Nutcracker Ball which they have yet to find. One year they've given up on the dream to find that party. Well, except for Ethan.
He steals tickets to the famous party. Before they get there though the trio goes through a series of mishaps and face some truths about themselves.
At the party, they continue to face their fears and weaknesses, but by the end make emends, and in an epilogue are depicted having a future of happy Christmases.
9. Scrooged
Answer: Bill Murray
In this black comedy adaptation of the famed Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" story, Bill Murray stars as the Ebeneezer Scrooge-like character, this time named Frank Cross, a cynical television executive. On Christmas Eve, the Ghost of Christmas Past visits Frank in the form of cigar-smoking cab driver played by David Johansen.
He transports Frank to his childhood Christmas in 1955 when his father ignored Christmas tradition, and then to 1968, when Frank met Claire (Karen Allen) and fell in love with her, but by 1971 grew apart from her due to his workaholism.
He meets the other ghosts just as the story usually follow through with, and the film is not so edgy as to throw the redemption theme out the window. It's featured here as well, and includes... Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton (as "Tiny Tim" Cratchit).
10. Violent Night
Answer: John Leguizamo
"Violent Night" is a genre-bending film, blending comedy, action and crime caper that depicts Santa Claus (actor David Harbour of "Stranger Things") fighting off a crew of naughty criminals who have taken over a rich family's mansion during their Christmas Eve gathering.
The criminals have Christmas-themed code names (Tinsel, Frosty, Gingerbread, Candy Cane, etc.) with John Leguizamo at the head (and nicknamed Scrooge, naturally). Leguizamo's goal is to find a hidden vault in the mansion containing $300 million. Scrooge and Santa have a fight to the death. One or the other dies... or do they both die?
